Microsoft Expands AI Features to Intel and AMD-Powered Copilot Plus PCs
Microsoft is broadening the accessibility of its artificial intelligence functionalities to a wider range of Copilot Plus PCs, now including those powered by Intel and AMD processors. Among the most prominent of these advancements is Live Captions, an innovative feature designed to transcribe audio into English subtitles from numerous languages in real-time. This expansion marks a significant step in making cutting-edge AI tools available to more users.
Live Captions and Enhanced Creative Tools Now Available
The tech giant initially commenced trials of Live Captions on Intel and AMD-based devices last December. This feature is now fully operational through the latest Windows 11 update. Alongside Live Captions, the update introduces Cocreator, an AI-driven tool integrated within Paint. Cocreator enables users to generate images based on textual descriptions and their ongoing sketches. Furthermore, Microsoft is extending access to its intelligent image editing and generation capabilities within the Photos application, enriching user creative possibilities.
Expanding Beyond Qualcomm: Recall Feature Still in Development
Previously, these advanced features were exclusively limited to Copilot Plus PCs utilizing Qualcomm chips. Microsoft initiated testing of Recall, an AI functionality that captures snapshots of user activity on Copilot Plus PCs for subsequent searching, on Intel and AMD devices in the preceding year. However, the widespread release date for Recall remains unannounced. This suggests a phased rollout of AI capabilities across different hardware platforms.
Voice Access Improvements and Language Expansion
In addition, Microsoft is refining Voice Access, an assistive technology that empowers individuals to operate their PCs using speech commands. This update is initially being implemented on Qualcomm-equipped Copilot Plus PCs. Microsoft indicates that Voice Access users on these devices will experience enhanced communication with their computers, benefiting from “more descriptive and flexible language” understanding. The update also incorporates the capability to translate 27 global languages into Simplified Chinese. Microsoft has communicated intentions to deploy both these Voice Access enhancements to Intel and AMD-based devices in the near future, ensuring feature parity across platforms.
