Littler Suggests Bunting is Overburdening Himself Amid Premier League Darts Struggles

Teenage sensation Luke Littler believes Stephen Bunting is exacerbating his poor run in the Premier League Darts by “putting too much pressure on himself.” Littler inflicted the latest defeat on Bunting in Newcastle on Thursday, extending the Liverpudlian’s winless streak in the 2025 competition.

Bunting’s Winless Run Continues

With half of the Premier League Darts season concluded, Bunting remains at the bottom of the table without any points. His last victory in the tournament dates back to 2015. He is now on the verge of equaling the record for the longest losing streak if he fails to triumph against Nathan Aspinall next Thursday in Berlin.

Equaling Wright’s Unwanted Record

The current record for consecutive losses is held by Peter Wright, who endured a 13-match winless stretch across the 2019 and 2020 seasons. Bunting’s recent setback came in a comprehensive 6-0 whitewash at the hands of world champion Littler.

Littler’s Advice to Rival

Following their match, Littler offered some advice to his struggling opponent, suggesting that Bunting is placing excessive pressure on himself at the oche.

“Obviously, Steve is finding it tough at the moment,” Littler commented. “Once he secures that initial victory, I am confident he will achieve several more wins in the Premier League. I think we are at the halfway point now. I believe last week he mentioned he is putting too much pressure on himself.”

Call for Relaxation

Littler continued, “Clearly, without a win in eight weeks, if I were in Stephen’s position, I would tell myself to simply relax. Just focus on getting that first win. And I am sure once he experiences that first win and regains that winning feeling, he will progress. Hopefully, I believe he is capable of winning a night eventually.”

Points Gap Widens

A significant 26 points now separate Bunting from Littler at the top of the league standings. The 18-year-old Littler has impressively won four of the eight nights contested thus far.

Bunting Thanks Supportive Fans

Despite facing criticism for his disappointing performances, Bunting has expressed gratitude to fans for their support. He hopes to turn his tournament around in the upcoming event in Germany.

Response to Supporters

When urged on social media to “ignore the haters,” Bunting responded, “Thank you. Much appreciated. I avoid the negative comments as I am aware they exist. I am proud to be part of the Premier League. I am proud of my progress since considering quitting, and to be close to reaching No. 4 in the world is incredible. I will never give up and will always strive to give 110 per cent to achieve my objectives.”

In another reply to a similar message of support, he stated: “Thanks, mate. Really appreciate you reaching out. I am doing well. Feel great and have amazing family, team, management and sponsors behind me. And the fans are fantastic. I will continue to give my all.”
