Marvel Rivals Gains Popularity, Addressing PC Performance Concerns

The superhero team-based shooter Marvel Rivals has achieved significant popularity since its launch in late 2024, attracting millions of players across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and PC platforms. Developer NetEase is attributing part of this success to their dedication to consistently updating and enhancing the game experience.

Continuous Updates and Season 2 Anticipation

NetEase has maintained a regular schedule of software updates, issuing patches on an almost weekly basis to improve Marvel Rivals. This trend is set to continue into April with the launch of a brand new season. Season 2 promises to introduce fresh characters, game modes, and further gameplay upgrades. A key focus of the upcoming season is resolving a performance issue affecting PC players.

Addressing PC RAM Usage

Reports, notably from PC Gamer, have highlighted that Marvel Rivals can utilize substantial amounts of RAM on PC. This high memory consumption has led to performance that is less than ideal, particularly for users with 16GB of RAM.

Developer Response and Potential Solution

Weikang Ruan, the lead technical designer, acknowledged this issue in an interview, stating that a fix is actively being developed. This optimization patch is tentatively planned for release with Season 2.

Ruan explained, “On PC, we recognise that optimization is a significant problem, especially concerning memory consumption.” He further indicated that “Season 2 may include an experimental checkbox in our launcher, enabling players to significantly reduce memory usage.”

He emphasized the complexity of addressing the problem, stating, “It’s a very big problem, and implementing a fix requires considerable work and thorough testing, preventing its release in a minor patch. However, we are aware of the issue and committed to ongoing optimization.”

Season 2 Launch Window

Based on the Season 1 Battle Pass timer, Season 2 of Marvel Rivals is anticipated to commence around April 11th. This timeline provides NetEase with approximately two weeks to finalize and prepare the optimization patch.

New Venom-Themed Bundle Released

Coinciding with the anticipation for Season 2, a new Venom-themed Pick-Up Bundle has been launched for Marvel Rivals.

Venom Bundle Contents

Priced at £2.69, the Marvel Rivals Pick-Up Bundle offers the “Venom – Hyper Orange” character skin. Upon purchasing the bundle, the new Venom skin is immediately unlocked. Additional in-game rewards can be earned by playing matches:

  • Three sets of 50 Chrono Tokens
  • A Spray
  • A Costume Coin
  • A Nameplate

The Costume Coin allows players to acquire a new outfit for another character from the in-game item shop.

Recent Game Update

The bundle’s release was accompanied by a substantial game update that implemented fixes for various maps, game modes, and individual characters within Marvel Rivals.
