The high-stakes matchup in San Francisco determined the West Region champion. Later in the evening, the East Region final was set to unfold between No. 1 Duke and No. 2 Alabama, vying for the remaining Final Four position.

Facing a significant 71-61 disadvantage with just over six minutes remaining in the second half, and enduring a near four-minute scoring drought, the Gators appeared on the brink of upset. However, demonstrating resilience, Florida unleashed a decisive 23-8 surge to seize the lead and punch their ticket to San Antonio for the Final Four.
Clayton Jr. and Haugh Lead Offensive Charge
Senior guard Walter Clayton Jr. spearheaded the Gators’ offense, delivering a tournament-high 30 points. Sophomore forward Thomas Haugh provided crucial support, contributing 20 points to the winning effort.
