Human Trafficking Investigation Launched After Ukrainian Model Found Injured in Dubai

Authorities have reportedly initiated a human trafficking investigation following the discovery of Maria Kovalchuk, a Ukrainian model known for her OnlyFans content, who was found injured on a road in Dubai. The model’s reappearance comes after a period of being missing, prompting concern and now an official inquiry into the circumstances surrounding her disappearance and injuries.

Discovery and Initial Police Account

Maria Kovalchuk, 20, a native of Lviv, Ukraine, had been missing for ten days after informing friends of an invitation to a hotel gathering in Dubai on March 9. Her failure to board a scheduled flight to Thailand heightened concerns among her family and friends. She was discovered on March 19 near a Dubai roadway, suffering from significant injuries, including fractures to her spine and limbs.

Emergency services transported her to a hospital where she underwent four surgical procedures. Her mother, Anna Kovalchuk, indicated that doctors anticipate her daughter’s recovery.

Conflicting Accounts of Injury

According to Dubai Police, their investigation suggests the model sustained her injuries due to an accidental fall within a “restricted construction site.” Police stated she entered the site unaccompanied and fell “from a height.” However, reports indicate that Kovalchuk’s family disputes this account, presenting an alternative narrative of events. Requests for comment from Dubai Police at the time were reportedly unanswered.

Human Trafficking Case Opened

Despite the initial police assessment, Ukrainian law enforcement has now opened a human trafficking case related to Ms. Kovalchuk’s disappearance, according to reports. This development signals a potential divergence in investigative focus and raises further questions about the events leading to the model‘s injuries in Dubai.

The National Police of Ukraine, specifically the investigative unit in the Lviv region, where Maria Kovalchuk originates, has formally commenced the case, initiating a “pre-trial investigation” as of March 29. At present, no individuals have been identified as suspects in the ongoing inquiry.

Lack of Immediate Response and Ongoing Investigation

Requests for comments submitted to the National Police of Ukraine and the Ukrainian Consulate in Dubai on March 29 reportedly did not receive immediate responses. It remains uncertain whether the investigation referenced by Maria’s mother pertains to the newly announced Ukrainian case or a separate inquiry.

Circumstances Leading to Disappearance

Prior to her disappearance, Maria Kovalchuk reportedly informed her mother that she was in the company of two men who purportedly presented themselves as representatives from the modeling industry. Regarding the hotel party she mentioned to friends, it remains unconfirmed if she attended the event. Her mother stated there is an “assumption” she went to a party, but the party promoter reportedly did not recall seeing her.

Model’s Condition and Public Response

Following her medical interventions, Maria Kovalchuk is reportedly unable to speak. Upon being located, she was without personal documents or a phone. Since news of her situation emerged, well-wishers have posted messages of support on her Instagram account, where she is known as “Mary Lu.” Her last post on the platform was in February.
