Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, a seasoned reporter covering Apple, indicated during a recent online Q&A that the tech giant currently has no intentions to reintroduce a smaller iPhone model. Gurman stated that Apple has been progressively moving toward “bigger and bigger and bigger” designs. This strategic shift makes smaller phones feel increasingly diminutive in comparison to their larger counterparts. “We’ll see what the market tells Apple,” Gurman added, suggesting future decisions could be influenced by consumer demand.
End of an Era for Sub-6-Inch iPhones?
Gurman’s insights, drawing from his established network of company sources, coincide with Apple‘s recent discontinuation of the third-generation iPhone SE. This move effectively eliminates any iPhone model featuring a display smaller than 6 inches from Apple‘s current lineup. Furthermore, reports suggest Apple is developing a foldable iPhone with a substantial 7.8-inch inner display (reportedly crease-free) and a 5.5-inch outer display. The launch of this foldable device could occur as early as next year, further cementing Apple‘s focus on larger screen technologies.
iPhone Mini’s Brief Stint
The iPhone Mini, last updated in 2021, featured a 5.4-inch display. This smaller model was first introduced with the iPhone 12 Mini in 2020, offering a more compact alternative to the standard iPhone.

Llamas elaborated, “With the prevailing trend towards increasingly larger smartphones – exemplified by the iPhone Pro Max – and the success of budget-conscious products like the iPhone SE and reportedly upcoming iPhone 16E, the iPhone Mini‘s specialized position within the iPhone ecosystem has faced persistent pressure from its larger and more affordable counterparts.”
He further noted, “I believe many consumers appreciated it, especially for older relatives seeking a small and uncomplicated device – but less frequently for their personal use.”
