Tesla Model 3 Tops List for Tyre Replacements

Data compiled by Kwik Fit indicates that the Tesla Model 3 is subject to the highest volume of tyre changes across the United Kingdom. Owners of this electric vehicle are reportedly replacing tyres more often than drivers of any other car type in 54 regions nationwide.

Electric vehicles (EVs) like the Model 3, typically equipped with lithium-ion batteries, are generally heavier than comparable petrol or diesel cars. This increased weight contributes to greater pressure on the tyres, accelerating wear and tear. However, to address this issue, several manufacturers are developing more durable tyre options specifically designed for the demands of electric vehicles.

The Tesla Model Y, a larger model from the same manufacturer, also features prominently on the list, ranking third for tyre replacements and topping the charts in 16 areas of the UK.

The Citroen Berlingo, another vehicle noted for rapid tyre wear, is identified by Kwik Fit as leading in 24 regions for tyre replacements. Despite the availability of a fully-electric version, the popularity of this compact commercial vehicle, often used as a minivan, likely contributes to its high ranking due to its substantial payload capacity.

Depending on the specific configuration, the Citroen Berlingo can accommodate a maximum payload of up to 1,000kg. This significant load capacity can exert considerable stress on the tyres, potentially leading to increased wear rates.
