Jennifer Lopez is reuniting with her Selena film co-star, Edward James Olmos, in an upcoming Netflix movie. The pair, who famously portrayed father and daughter in the 1997 biopic Selena, are set to collaborate once again in the romantic comedy, Office Romance.
A Full Circle Moment
Lopez, aged 55, announced the casting news on Instagram, expressing her excitement about working with Olmos again. “From ‘Selena’ to now, this journey has come full circle,” she wrote in the caption of a post shared on Thursday, March 27, adding, “We’re delighted to welcome the incredible Edward James Olmos to ‘Office Romance!’” The social media update featured a nostalgic throwback photograph alongside a recent picture of Lopez and Olmos.
Olmos, 78, will portray the father of Lopez’s character in Office Romance. The screenplay is penned by Ted Lasso creators Brett Goldstein and Joe Kelly. Lopez is also serving as a producer for the project, as reported by Deadline in September 2024.
Father-Daughter Duo Returns
Office Romance marks the second occasion Olmos and Lopez will play a father and daughter. Their previous portrayal was in Selena, the critically acclaimed 1997 biographical film centered on the life of Tejano music icon Selena Quintanilla-Pérez.
Netflix officially confirmed Olmos’s casting via an Instagram post on Thursday, stating, “Edward James Olmos will play Jennifer Lopez’s father (again!) in OFFICE ROMANCE, her new movie with Brett Goldstein.”

Lopez offered fans a glimpse into the filming process of Office Romance in a short video shared on Saturday, March 22. The Instagram reel captured a candid moment on set.
The video begins with two production team members addressing the camera, humorously saying, “Rolling… Hey, can you watch our boss for a second?” They then positioned the camera towards Lopez, who appeared momentarily surprised before greeting the lens.
“What are you doing?” she questioned, followed by a friendly “Hi.” Lopez captioned the brief clip simply with “Hi…” and the hashtag “#OfficeRomance.”
Project Amidst Personal Transitions
This new film venture arrives during a period of personal change for Lopez.
Recent reports indicated that Lopez acquired “a new home near Los Angeles for approximately $18 million” following her separation from Ben Affleck, as reported by People on Tuesday, March 25.
The Beverly Hills mansion previously shared by the former couple, which was listed for $68 million in July 2024, remains on the market. Lopez and Affleck’s divorce was reportedly finalized in February 2025, according to a TMZ report at that time.
