Outlander’s Caitríona Balfe Shares Sneak Peek into Final Season

Fans of the acclaimed Starz series Outlander have been treated to an exclusive glimpse into the highly anticipated eighth and final season, courtesy of series star Caitríona Balfe. A recent video shared on the official Outlander Instagram account features the Irish actress, aged 45, in a delightful conversation with her young co-star Florrie May Wilkinson, who portrays Fanny Pocock. The exchange, initially reported by the Scottish Daily Express, hints at heartwarming dynamics to come in the season conclusion.

Child Star Praises On-Set Mentorship

Florrie May Wilkinson expressed her joy in being part of the seventh season filming, stating enthusiastically, “I have loved making season seven so much.”

The young actress further lauded Balfe for her guidance and support during filming. “It was such a good opportunity, and being with Caitríona makes it all better because I get to meet her and she gives really good tips and advice,” Wilkinson remarked.

Detailing the nature of the advice, Wilkinson disclosed, “So you taught me how to be good at acting and taught me how to cry.”

In response, Balfe, known for her roles in “Belfast” and “Le Mans ’66,” humbly countered, “You did it all on your own. You were good.”

Season 8 Teases: Fanny’s Integration with Claire and Jamie

Balfe, celebrated for her portrayal of Claire Fraser in Outlander, offered hints about the narrative direction of the concluding season. She suggested her character’s enthusiasm for welcoming Wilkinson‘s Fanny into their lives, possibly as a medical apprentice. Teasing future storylines, she stated, “You know, she will be getting into the surgery. We’ll have you doing lots of things.”

Adding a playful note, Balfe joked, “We can make potions. You and I can talk about maybe we’ll put a spell on Jamie, which means he’ll just give us all his money and then I don’t know, we’ll go do something really fun with it.”

Wilkinson conveyed Fanny’s potential feelings of gratitude towards Jamie (Sam Heughan) and Claire, saying, “I think Fanny would be very grateful that they’d taken her in because she’s been lonely.”

Balfe also commented on Fanny’s adjustment to life at Fraser’s Ridge. “It might take her sometime to get used to everyone,” she noted.

Fanny’s Role in the Fraser Family

“But then we’ll be like a big, happy family,” Balfe affirmed.

Extending a warm welcome, Balfe said, “Welcome to the family,” as she embraced her young co-star.

Drawing from Diana Gabaldon’s novel “Go Tell The Bees That I Am Gone,” the narrative of Outlander sees Fanny becoming an integral part of Jamie and Claire’s family, sharing their lives at the Ridge.

Expanding Connections and Healing Journey

At Fraser’s Ridge, Fanny not only adapts to her new environment but cultivates relationships with others her age, including Germain Fraser (played by Robin Scott) and Jemmy MacKenzie (portrayed by Blake Johnston-Miller).

Furthermore, Fanny embarks on a path of discovery alongside Claire, delving into the practice of medicine, which promises a stable future starkly contrasting with her previous hardships.

Season Seven’s Faith Revelation and Season Eight’s Trajectory

As season seven concluded, subtle indications pointed to a poignant connection between Claire and Fanny. The narrative suggested Fanny’s mother could be Claire’s presumed stillborn daughter, Faith – a divergence from the original book series storyline.

This significant plot element is anticipated to be explored more deeply in the concluding season, potentially positioning Fanny centrally within this adaptation’s distinct narrative progression.

Indeed, Fanny may emerge as a surrogate daughter figure for Jamie and Claire, symbolically bridging the void left by Faith’s loss.
