Emma Raducanu has message for 'rattled' Amanda Anisimova after superb Miami Open win

Raducanu Advances to Miami Open Quarter-Finals After Victory Over Anisimova

Emma Raducanu dispatched Amanda Anisimova at the Miami Open, securing her place in the quarter-finals of the prestigious WTA 1000 tournament. The British player dominated the match in straight sets, overcoming Anisimova 6-1, 6-3. Raducanu’s impressive serve was a key factor in her commanding performance in Miami.

Anisimova Hampered by Injury

Raducanu exhibited superior form across the court; however, Anisimova appeared to be hampered by a pre-existing finger injury, which visibly impacted her play. The American player had previously shared images of the injury on social media and requested a medical timeout during the match between sets.

Raducanu Acknowledges Opponent’s Condition

In a post-match interview with Sky Sports, Raducanu alluded to Anisimova’s injury, stating, “Playing Amanda is always challenging. She has achieved significant victories against top 20 players and won a Masters title this year. She is playing excellent tennis, and I hope her wrist, or finger, recovers swiftly.”

Commentator Criticizes Anisimova’s Performance

Earlier, Sky Sports commentator Annabel Croft had expressed strong criticism of Anisimova’s lackluster showing in the first set against Raducanu. Prior to the medical break, the finger issue was evidently affecting Anisimova and hindering her game. Croft commented, “Anisimova appears thoroughly unsettled. Her serve… I’m not sure Emma has conceded a point on it, has she?”

Quick Turnaround for Both Players

Both Raducanu and Anisimova faced a rapid transition from their previous third-round matches, both having competed on Sunday. Raducanu addressed this, saying, “The quick turnaround was undoubtedly tough, Amanda finished even later than I did. By the time you return to the hotel, it’s 11 pm, making immediate sleep difficult.”

“Being scheduled third today, I was particularly pleased with my physical recovery. While yesterday’s match wasn’t lengthy, the mental strain of these tournaments is substantial. I appreciate having a day to rest, gather my thoughts, and prepare for the next round.”

Raducanu Reflects on Recent Form

Regarding her overall performance, she commented, “I’ve made considerable progress in the past week. Following Indian Wells, I lacked confidence in my tennis and overall game. However, this week I am surrounded by supportive individuals whom I trust and enjoy spending time with off the court as well.”

“This support is incredibly important, I believe. I am naturally expressive, and when I perform optimally, I am authentic, genuine, and creative. When confined to rigid routines, I cannot express myself in the same manner. I am pleased to have rediscovered this aspect this week.”

Quarter-Final Matchup Awaits

Raducanu is set to compete against either Marta Kostyuk or Jessica Pegula in the quarter-finals of the Miami Open.
