Thomas Tuchel axes TWO England stars from squad for his second game in charge tonight

England Squad Update: Livramento and Ramsdale Omitted for Latvia Qualifier

Two players have been excluded from the England national team squad for Monday night’s World Cup qualifier against Latvia.

Following England’s 2-0 victory over Albania, manager Thomas Tuchel evaluated his squad. He has now finalized his selection for the upcoming match at Wembley, emphasizing team unity over individual brilliance.

Key Exclusions and Inclusions

While Anthony Gordon returned to Newcastle due to injury, two additional players, Tino Livramento and Aaron Ramsdale, will not feature in the 23-man squad. Their omission is confirmed on UEFA’s official squad list.

In contrast, Morgan Gibbs-White and Jarell Quansah, who were absent from the Albania game squad, have been included this time.

Tuchel’s Team Ethos

Ahead of the Latvia match, Tuchel stated, “We must refine our selection process to identify the optimal group.”

He added, “This may necessitate leaving out capable and talented players. Over the next 16 months, our priority is building the right team dynamic, not merely assembling the 26 most talented individuals.”

Tuchel stressed, “Cultivating the right team spirit is crucial. Qualifying matches are distinct from major tournament play.”

Foden and Rashford Retain Spots

Despite recent criticism regarding their performance against Albania, Phil Foden and Marcus Rashford remain in the squad.

Roy Keane had critiqued Foden’s display, suggesting his squad place could be in jeopardy if his form doesn’t improve.

Post-match, Tuchel commented, “Both starting wingers [Foden and Rashford] were less effective than their usual club form. I need to analyze why we struggled to deliver the ball to them effectively and in more advantageous positions.”

Tuchel’s Support for Wingers

In the pre-Latvia press conference, Tuchel affirmed his support: “I have spoken with both players, including in front of the team. They are aware of my appreciation for their effort, particularly defensively.”

He elaborated, “Statistical data and match analysis reveal their significant defensive contribution, high pressing, and sprint numbers.”

Tuchel noted about Rashford, “Marcus made numerous runs when we had possession that went unnoticed or unused. He might have been slightly unlucky with timing. At times, he was overlooked.”

Regarding Foden, Tuchel said, “Phil might currently lack his usual momentum. However, both players are positive and understand our expectations. Ideally, we aim to create more one-on-one opportunities for them, encouraging them to utilize their confidence in those situations.”

He further explained, “Phil possibly needs closer connection with a No. 10 than we facilitated in the last game. Marcus generated a significant chance for Jude Bellingham and made valuable off-ball runs that were not always capitalized upon.”

Tuchel concluded, “Critically, their off-ball effort was evident and commendable.”
