Major League Baseball removes ‘diversity’ from careers page after executive order

MLB Modifies Careers Page, Eliminates “Diversity” References

Major League Baseball has eliminated mentions of “diversity” from its MLB Careers homepage. This action follows a recent executive directive from US President Donald Trump. The directive could potentially trigger federal actions against organizations employing Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) programs that the administration interprets as violating civil rights regulations.

League Statement on Program Evaluations

In a released statement on Friday, MLB asserted, “Our commitment to diversity remains steadfast.” The league added, “We are currently assessing our programs to determine if any adjustments to eligibility standards are necessary. These adjustments would ensure full compliance with federal law as our programs progress.”

Commissioner Manfred Addresses Policy Review

Baseball Commissioner Rob Manfred, who initiated the Diversity Pipeline Program in 2016, addressed the policy review following a meeting of team owners in Palm Beach, Florida, last month.

Manfred stated, “Our values, particularly our dedication to diversity, are unchanged. However, we also prioritize adhering to legal mandates.” He further commented, “There appears to be an evolving legal landscape. We are monitoring this situation closely. Once the situation becomes clearer, we will review each of our programs to guarantee that while upholding our core values, we also align with all legal requirements.”
