Dolly Parton Shares Reflections on Carl Dean’s Passing
Country music icon Dolly Parton has recently spoken about the passing of her husband, Carl Dean, who died earlier this month.
In an interview published by Knox News on Monday, March 17, Parton, 79, revealed that Dean “suffered considerably” prior to his death. This interview occurred just two weeks after Dean’s passing.
“I’m faring better than anticipated. Having spent 60 years together, rediscovering certain routines will be necessary, but he will remain eternally close to my heart,” the celebrated “Jolene” vocalist stated.
Parton further expressed, “I find peace knowing he is at peace, yet my love and longing for him persist.”
A Lasting Union
Parton and Dean’s relationship began in 1964 with a chance meeting outside a Nashville laundromat. They formalized their commitment two years later in marriage.

The interview with Knox News was part of a celebration for Dollywood, Parton’s renowned theme park, marking its 40th anniversary season.
Parton recounted Dean’s unassuming visits to Dollywood, noting his insistence on purchasing his own admission.
“He would visit the park, procure his own ticket, and wait in line like any other guest. He declined complimentary admission due to being known as Dolly’s husband. This always amused everyone,” Parton shared.
Public Appearance and Tribute
On Friday, March 14, Parton made her first public appearance since Dean’s death, welcoming season pass holders to Dollywood for its milestone 40th season. Addressing fans, Parton offered a heartfelt tribute to Dean.
“My love and remembrance of him will be perpetual, but I also want to assure you of my enduring affection for you,” she conveyed to the audience.
“I want to express my deep gratitude for your support over recent years,” the celebrated singer continued. “Permit me to take a moment to thank you all for the flowers, cards, and kind wishes extended to me upon Carl’s passing. You are aware of my profound love for him, and I know he would want me to continue working. And indeed, I intend to carry on.”
Parton acknowledged in her address the intense emotions she had experienced in the preceding two weeks.
“I need levity, I need amusement, so I might engage in some lightheartedness. The past couple of weeks have been filled with sufficient tears,” she remarked.
Return to the Spotlight
On Thursday, March 20, Parton resumed public appearances on the red carpet for the Nashville premiere of her new symphonic concert tour, Dolly Parton’s Threads: My Songs in Symphony.
