Jenny Slate refuses to discuss ‘It Ends With Us’ drama after backing Blake Lively: ‘I don’t have anything to say’

Jenny Slate Sidesteps “It Ends With Us” Legal Drama

Jenny Slate has drawn a line.

While promoting her upcoming FX miniseries, “Dying for Sex,” the 42-year-old actress stated to The Hollywood Reporter that she will not be commenting on the ongoing legal dispute between her “It Ends With Us” co-stars, Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni.

“I don’t have anything to offer on that subject,” Slate responded when asked by the publication to compare her experiences making the two projects during an interview released on Thursday.

“Each project is unique. I invested my entire being into this endeavor, and every moment of [‘Dying for Sex’] held significance for me. My focus is solely on discussing this work,” she clarified.

However, Slate acknowledged the likelihood of facing inquiries regarding the legal situation during her press engagements.

“Anyone is free to ask anything,” she remarked, adding, “but my responsibility is to discuss the project I am promoting. Securing this role was incredibly important to me, so I intend to dedicate my time to discussing only that.”

Upon the film’s initial release in August, rumors circulated suggesting a rift between Lively, 37, and Baldoni, 40, reportedly stemming from their reluctance to promote the movie together. Slate and the remaining cast members participated in promotional activities alongside Lively.

In December, Lively initiated legal action against Baldoni, who also directed the film, alleging sexual harassment and accusing him of orchestrating a damaging public relations campaign against her.

Slate publicly voiced her support for the “Gossip Girl” actress at the time.

“As Blake Lively’s colleague and friend, I express my unwavering support as she pursues action against those accused of plotting and executing an assault on her character,” the comedian stated to Today.

“Blake is a leader, a devoted friend, and a trusted source of emotional support for myself and countless others who know and cherish her,” Slate continued. “The revelations surrounding the attack on Blake are deeply disturbing, unsettling, and profoundly menacing. I commend my friend, admire her courage, and stand firmly by her side.”

However, Slate has maintained silence regarding the intensifying legal conflict in recent months.

Lively formally filed a lawsuit against the “Jane the Virgin” actor in December, reiterating allegations of sexual harassment. Subsequently, in January, Baldoni filed a $400 million countersuit against Lively and her husband, Ryan Reynolds, accusing them of defamation.

Baldoni also presented evidence, including unedited footage from a dance scene in “It Ends With Us” and purported text message exchanges with the couple, which he asserts substantiates his innocence.

Brandon Sklenar, who played Atlas in the movie, also demonstrated solidarity with Lively following her legal complaint against Baldoni. Yet, similar to Slate, Sklenar, 34, has evaded questions concerning the legal battle since Baldoni’s defense.

“I simply want people to recall the original purpose behind creating this film and its intended message, keeping our attention directed at that,” Sklenar stated on “CBS Mornings” last month, after Gayle King questioned whether he was “team Blake” or “team Justin.”

“This movie held profound significance for me,” Sklenar added. “It is unfortunate when external issues detract from the core essence of a project, leading to unnecessary complications.”
