Assassin's Creed Shadow release time, date, Steam delay, pre-load and file size

Assassin’s Creed Shadows: Release Imminent for Consoles and PC

The wait for the latest installment in the mainline Assassin’s Creed franchise is nearing its end, as Assassin’s Creed Shadows is poised to launch on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam.

Set in feudal Japan, this new title in the Assassin’s Creed saga will employ a dual protagonist mechanic, reminiscent of gameplay seen in previous entries such as Assassin’s Creed Syndicate.

Following a challenging development period and some notable commercial disappointments from publisher Ubisoft, Assassin’s Creed Shadows is under close scrutiny to potentially revitalize the prominent video game developer.

Launch Timing and Pre-Load Details

Assassin’s Creed Shadows is scheduled for release on March 20th, with console versions unlocking at midnight UK time. PC players on Steam will experience a slightly delayed launch, with the game becoming available at 4:00 AM GMT UK time. However, the Steam countdown currently suggests a possible 6:00 AM UK time unlock.

To ensure immediate access upon release, players can pre-load Assassin’s Creed Shadows in advance.

Steam Deck Verification and PC Platform

While the PC release on Steam is slightly later, positive news for portable gamers is that Assassin’s Creed Shadows will be Steam Deck Verified and will not necessitate a Ubisoft Connect account for gameplay.

Ubisoft has indicated that the Steam Deck version will feature fixed graphical settings initially, although upscaling technologies will be enabled. Additional graphics customization options are planned for a future update.

Potential Post-Launch Updates

Despite prior delays, it is anticipated that Assassin’s Creed Shadows may receive one or more updates shortly after its release to address any unforeseen issues or implement further refinements.

PlayStation 5 Launch Discount Available

For players intending to purchase the game on PlayStation 5, a discount opportunity exists to save approximately £10 on the launch price.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows is listed at £69.99 on the PlayStation Store; however, purchasing a PlayStation Store gift card from CD Keys allows acquisition for £60.99. (Prices accurate at the time of publication.)

Redeeming PlayStation Store Credit

Upon purchasing a digital gift card from CD Keys, the retailer will provide a link containing the redemption code for the PlayStation Store.

Once the credit is applied to your PlayStation account, Assassin’s Creed Shadows, priced at £69.99, can be obtained for the reduced cost of £60.99.

Deluxe Edition and Bonus Content

An enhanced Deluxe Edition of the game is also available for £84.99, which includes supplementary in-game bonuses. These consist of the Sekiryu Dual Pack, Sekiryu Hideout Pack, and five mastery points.

This is in addition to the pre-order incentives included with the Standard Edition, such as the “Thrown to the Dogs” quest and the “Claws of Awaji” expansion.

Ubisoft’s Game Overview

Ubisoft describes the game experience as follows:

  • “Become a lethal shinobi Assassin and powerful, legendary samurai as you explore a beautiful open world in a time of chaos.”
