Amad Diallo had a good laugh at the expense of Arsenal defender Gabriel Magalhaes following the Gunners’ 1-1 draw with Manchester United at Old Trafford. Arsenal are now 15 points behind Liverpool with 10 matches to play. And while they have a game in hand on the Reds, the chances of Mikel Arteta’s men clawing back the deficit in such a short space of time are slim at best.
Fake quotes circulated on social media claiming that Gabriel was asked whether he was particularly scared of facing any United attackers. It was claimed that the centre-back responded: “I’m pretty sure I have scored more than all of them.”
Although the quotes are fake, the jibe was not far off being factually accurate. Gabriel has been a menace from set pieces this season, netting three times in the Premier League – the same total as United striker Joshua Zirkzee, and one more than the Red Devils’ other senior centre-forward, Rasmus Hojlund.
But Amad got caught out by the image. Quoting the clip of Gabriel’s apparent comments, the Ivorian responded with a GIF of Zirkzee celebrating against United after scoring the winning penalty in their January FA Cup clash. He added the caption: “Ahahah”.
Amad played no part in Sunday’s meeting between the Gunners and United as he is still sidelined with an ankle injury he picked up in February. Manager Ruben Amorim was initially resigned to losing him for the remainder of the campaign, but he recently acknowledged that there is a chance he could return sooner than expected.

“I think it is just Amad and [Lisandro] Martinez [who will not play againt this season],” he said. “Even Amad, we will see at the end of the last month. He could be… I don’t want to say anything, but I have hopes to have Amad before the end of the season. We will see.”
Prior to his injury, Amad had been one of United’s most reliable performers. He had worked his way up to six goals and six assists in 22 Premier League matches, including the last-minute winner in December’s dramatic win over Manchester City.
