FIFA 19 news: Could EA’s upcoming football title harness one of Fortnite’s BEST features?

Fortnite was released last year but has seen its user base grow at a staggering rate in recent months.

The Epic Games title allows players to seamlessly transition from Xbox One to Nintendo Switch on the fly.

Users can carry over their statistics in addition to their Battle Pass.

Express.co.uk recently went hands-on with FIFA 19 and was eager to ask EA Sports Creative Director Matthew Prior whether similar functionality could come to the sporting flagship.

Prior insisted the feature has been “discussed” but did not clarify if this had been internally at the publisher or with Microsoft, Sony or Nintendo.

vCard QR Code

vCard.red is a free platform for creating a mobile-friendly digital business cards. You can easily create a vCard and generate a QR code for it, allowing others to scan and save your contact details instantly.

The platform allows you to display contact information, social media links, services, and products all in one shareable link. Optional features include appointment scheduling, WhatsApp-based storefronts, media galleries, and custom design options.

He told this publication: “It is something we have discussed, I mean we kind of pride ourselves on being player first and I think if you look from a players perspective the wider and bigger the community is it’s just beneficial for everyone.

“You know the more people that play and the more opportunity to play is just a thing that everyone wants.”

The EA Sports Creative Director did not rule out the possibility of such a feature coming in a future update however.

Prior went on: “So it is something we’ve discussed and it is something potentially for the future.

“We are not speaking about anything right now, but as a gamer myself I think it would be a good thing for the wider community.”

Cross platform play is available on a number of popular titles that have been embraced by gamers across consoles.

Rocket League also offers cross platform play between Xbox One and Nintendo Switch consoles.

Xbox gamers are alerted when they are playing against someone using the Japanese hybrid.

Meanwhile, Minecraft also allows players on Xbox One and Nintendo Switch to play together.

PlayStation’s lack of cooperation on this front has led to huge fan backlash.

This has prompted some Fortnite players to ditch their PlayStation 4 accounts for Xbox One and Switch so they can seamlessly transition their statistics between a home console and handheld for instance.

But Sony has recently hinted it could allow for cross platform play in the future.

Sony Interactive Entertainment America CEO Shawn Layden insisted the company was “hearing” calls from players to bring PlayStation gamers into the fold.

He said: “We’re hearing it. We’re looking at a lot of the possibilities.

“You can imagine that the circumstances around that affect a lot more than just one game.

“I’m confident we’ll get to a solution which will be understood and accepted by our gaming community, while at the same time supporting our business.”

Although cross platform play has not been confirmed for FIFA 19, during Express.co.uk’s hands on with the game we experienced a number of huge changes in this year’s instalment.

“50/50 Battles” is by the far the biggest addition this year that drastically changes how players compete for a loose ball.

The new feature allows players from both sides to use their feet in vital clashes for possession.

There are a number of other changes coming when FIFA 19 launches on September 28, you can read our full preview of the game here.
