Is the Mamma Mia 2 soundtrack or Now 100 the new UK No1? Did ABBA top the charts?

The UK is saying Thank You For The Music once again as Dancing Queens across the land celebrate the Swedish supergroup’s eternal back catalogue.

Mamma Mia Here We Go Again has topped the UK movie charts on its first week of release but can the motion picture soundtrack pull off the same trick?

ABBA Gold has also been racing up the charts, but has to settle for No7.

However, in an age of digital streaming and downloads the Now That’s What I Call Music compilations have continued to dominate the charts.

Benny and Bjorn have officially topped the UK album charts yet again in their incredible careers but they are NOT the best-selling release of the week.

Th Official Charts Company classifies compilations in a separate chart where NOw 100 regns supreme.

The milestone compilation has clocked up a whopping 176,000 copies this week – following the already impressive first week sales of NOW 99 (115,000) and NOW 98 (154,000).

By comparison, The Motion Picture Cast Recording to Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again has shifted 35,000 combined sales.

The Greatest Show is the undisputed best-selling album of the year and is still going strong in second position while Scorpion by Drake remains the years fastest-selling artist album and sits at No3.

George Ezra’s Staying at Tamara’s is at No4 while the soundtrack to the original Mamma Mia movie has raced in at no5.

This means Benny and Bjorn have three albums in the UK Album Charts Top 10.

Guess who is the man who has featured the most times across the entire Now catalogue of 100 albums?

Robbie Williams is the act who has been featured the most at 30 times, starting with Old Before I Die on 1997’s Now 37.

Next are Kylie Minogue, Rihanna and Calvin Harris, who have all had more than 20 appearances.

David Guetta and Coldplay have also crossed the 20 mark, while Girls Aloud and Britney Spears have each appeared 20 times each on a Now album. The Top 10 is rounded out by U2 and Sugababes.
