Pakistan election results LIVE: Sharif REJECTS result as Khan leads – ‘BLATANT RIGGING’

Mr Sharif spoke strongly about the projections that are giving PTI’s leader Mr Khan a substantial lead over his main opponents, the PML-N and the PPP.

Taking his outrage to a press conference while authorities are still counting the votes casted by Pakistani citizens, Mr Sharif clearly rejected the outcome seeing Mr Khan becoming the country’s next prime minister.

He said: “We thought the election would be decided as per the free will of the people.

“The people came out in large numbers also.

“I have never seen such a scary political scene in my political career.

“Until a while ago, not a single result was declared officially on any of the seats in Lahore.

“We have videos from Dera Ghazi Khan, where women and children are kept in custody.

“There are reports coming in from Karachi as well.

“This is blatant rigging that is taking place.

“This is taking Pakistan back 30 years.

“We will build consensus of all political parties that have the same complaint.

“We cannot leave this matter like this.

“We are winning in the Punjab Provincial Assembly.

“But it’s not about winning losing.

“It is about the future of Pakistan.”

The leader of PML-N was joined by his party in the outrage that followed the outcome of the election, as a spokesman branded them “the dirtiest election in the history of Pakistan”.

The party claimed that a large scale of rigging took place in the polling process.

More than 350,000 armed men presided the polling station across the country.

General Qamar Baja said the military were there to “perform a facilitative role”, but the PML-N accused them of actively meddling into the elections.

But Pakistan Senator Mushahid Hussain, also member of the PML-N, said: “This is not an election but a selection. Someone is being installed, someone is being removed.”

The PML-N also said that five different political parties had the same complaint and that both the caretaker government that took over the PML-N in 2017 after his leader Nawaz Sharif was accused of corruption and the Election Commission of Pakistan failed.

The Commission has rejected charges and even warned political leaders from making such serious allegations without evidence.

Allegations from members of the PML-N follows those launched weeks ago during the election campaign by international group Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP).

HRCP warned there were “ample grounds to doubt” the legitimacy of the elections and criticised “blatant, aggressive and unabashed attempts to manipulate the outcome of the upcoming elections.”

The group added: “The level of army interference and political engineering is unprecedented.”
