When asked by Championnat why he didn’t confront McGregor at the World Cup Final, Nurmagomedov said: “In general, I see no reason to approach it now. We are hospitable people.
“Let the football look, enjoy Russia. And we, I think, will meet this year in Las Vegas.”
The UFC brass are hoping to have Nurmagomedov take place in Las Vegas at UFC 229 and UFC 232, which take place on October 6 and December 29.

“I really have seen the spark back lately,” the SBG Ireland head coach told ESPN. “I think that was directed at other areas of his life for a while, building up his business world – which is completely justified.
“We all know the hard-luck stories of fighters retiring broke. They get pats on the back and they’re forgotten.
“I supported [McGregor focusing on other business] and I’m fully behind it, but I do see the spark back.”
Conor McGregor’s coach discusses ‘Mystic Mac’s’ hiatus
Kavanagh has admitted he’s been both surprised and not surprised by his most famous student’s long layoff.
“I think it’s hard to appreciate his normal day-to-day life is like,” Kavanagh recently told ESPN’s Brett Okamoto. “In that, he has no normal day-to-day-life.
“And I don’t think people have any clue in just how deeply he’s involved in many other businesses. Whether it’s his whiskey brand that’s launching soon, his big commercial deals he’s doing, talking with various movies producers, his property portfolio.
“He’s a very, very smart guy in terms of utilising this time – in which he’s obviously a world superstar – in order to make sure that he’s financially set – and his grandkids and great grandkids are finically set.
“Whereas a lot of fighters, at the height of their fighting, when a business opportunity comes along, they push it away because they’re deep in fight camp. And then suddenly their fight career is over and then all these big business guys that were interested in being involved with them are gone. And maybe they didn’t make great money in the fight game.
“Conor is very lucky, he’s done both. But yeah, I think we all starting to feel that years are starting to whizz past. We only noticed the other day that we’re over the halfway point of this year. Like, when is the first Christmas ad going to come out? Time just goes so quickly nowadays.
“The world is so small, so much traveling and social media and we’re connected with so many millions of people. So it’s in some ways surprising, but in some ways not. Because I know what he’s been doing outside of the gym as well – I know some of what he’s been doing outside of the gym. So a year is just a blink at this stage.”
