'The perfect nutritious meal' Overnight oats take just five minutes to prepare – recipe

Oats have long been associated with heart health benefits and with so many ways to enjoy them, they’re a great breakfast ingredient.

While porridge is perhaps the most common way to enjoy oats in the morning, soaking them overnight makes for a much tastier meal.

Sharing their recipe on her blog Lauren’s Latest, the food blogger claimed: “This Overnight Oats recipe is the easiest breakfast recipe known to mankind. Only four ingredients are needed with no cooking required!

“I make my basic recipe in a big bowl the night before and let my kids pick their toppings the morning of.

“It’s the perfect, nutritious meal that adapts easily from day to day.”

Lauren suggested:

  • Carrot cake – add half a cup of finely grated carrot, 1/4 cup of drained and crushed pineapple and two tablespoons of nuts to the mixture before leaving it overnight
  • Coconut cream – use coconut milk and stir in half a cup of desiccated coconut before refrigerating
  • Lemon blueberry – add one and a half teaspoons of lemon zest and one cup of fresh blueberries to the mixture before refrigerating
  • Strawberry and cream – add vanilla extract and diced strawberries to the mixture
  • Apple and caramel – add diced apples and a drizzle of caramel sauce to the mixture

Overnight oats recipe

Measure all of the ingredients and combine in a large bowl, stirring everything well to ensure the oats are submerged.

Cover the bowl and leave in the fridge for six hours overnight, or even longer if possible.

When the time comes to serve them, divide the mixture into portions and add any desired toppings.

Tuck in straight away or take on the go to enjoy a few hours later.
