The family alerted the San Diego Police Department who have initiated a death investigation following the December 23 discovery. The homicide unit is investigating due to the nature of the discovery.

The person’s identity has not been made public, nor has the cause of death, but officials have said that the corpse is female.

‘It’s very surprising and scary and give me the chills because I’ve never heard something like this,’ neighbor Ana Marie Mierau told ABC San Diego.

”I started seeing the police everywhere, and I’m like: “That is something big,”‘ another, Teresa Morrison, said.

The gruesome discovery was made on December 23, police were called just before noon

‘his is a very safe area. We have a school across the street. We never heard about any violence or anything,’ a neighbor said

The home in question is a three bedroom home spread across 1,300 square feet in the Allied Gardens section of San Diego. It is valued around $900,000

‘This is a very safe area. We have a school across the street. We never heard about any violence or anything,’ she added.

‘It was concerning because I go for walks and I’m like, “What’s going on here?” It’s a little bit too much,’ Mierau also said.

The San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office will conduct tests to determine the cause of death.

‘Essentially, out-of-town family members were at a residence and located a dead body inside of a chest freezer. The body is believed to be female, but no other physical details such as age or race can be confirmed until an identification is made,’ the San Diego Police Department said in a statement.
