The PS4 and PS4 Pro consoles continue to sell well for Sony.

Even with the launch of other competitors, like Microsoft’s Xbox One X, it was recently confirmed that Sony had sold over 70m gaming machines.

With that in mind, there’s been a growing interest in what comes next for the tech giant.

Recent predictions have tried to cover what year the PS5 release date will be set, with some analysts backing 2020 as the announcement year.

However, Sony themselves may have provided a few clues on when they might start changing things up.

Sony recently announced alongside the latest PlayStation Plus lineup that March 2019 will see a big change for the PlayStation Plus subscription service.

In 12 months time, the PlayStation Plus lineup will be the first not to include PS3 and PS Vita titles.

In a blog post, Sony explained: “We also have an important service update to share. Starting next year on 8th March 2019, the PS Plus monthly games line-up will focus on PS4 titles and no longer include PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita titles.”

They added: “Many of our fans are playing on the PS4 platform, with the increasingly vast number of PS4s in homes around the world.

“We’ll continue to prioritise the benefits you receive through your PS Plus membership, such as online multiplayer, PS4 monthly games, online game save storage and exclusive PS Store discounts across content and network services.”

The announcement has led to further speculation that the PS3 and PS Vita could be departing from PS Plus to make way for PS5 games.

This would leave the PS4 as the more outdated console on the market, although this could all still be far of the mark.

Sony could also be changing their PS Plus service to include something much different, perhaps offering something that include streaming instead.

The Final Fantasy 7 Remake release date is still unknown, although a new update this week might have revealed a little more on Square Enix’s eventual plans.

So far, FF7 has only been announced for the PS4.

The remake was revealed in 2015 on during the Sony E3 conference, with no other platforms mentioned.

And while it’s likely that it will be coming first to PS4, other platforms will probably see an eventual release.

The FFXV Windows Edition’s technical director and lead programmer Takeshi Aramaki recently confirmed that more franchise games would be coming to PC in the future.

While not directly referencing FF7, Aramaki did reveal that Square Enix are looking to provide as much multi-platform support as possible.

“I can’t comment on that, but certainly as a company we have moved on to a strategy of trying to get our games on as many different platforms as possible, in order to reach as big a user base as we can,” Aramaki told Game Watcher.

“We’re a lot more pro-active in doing that than we may have been in the past, so it’s a good chance!”

Aramaki also revealed that developing FFXV for PC will have a massive positive effect on the next Final Fantasy game coming to the platform.

“The next game we make using Luminous will be much quicker in coming out on PC, and there’s a base for us to challenge ourselves further,” he added.

The FFXV team were also asked about Final Fantasy 7 Remake during the interview, but were any able to say that they had no idea what is being planned for it.

The most recent reports suggest that the first episode of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake will be released in early 2019, so maybe we’ll see more at E3 2018.

Kingdom Hearts 3 has scored a surprise victory over the Final Fantasy 7 Remake.

Express Online put the popularity of Kingdom Hearts 3 and Final Fantasy 7 Remake to the test in a recent poll.

More than 11k people took the poll, which asked readers to specify which Square Enix game they were most looking forward to.

Perhaps surprisingly, 53% of the votes went to Kingdom Hearts 3, compared to 47% for the Final Fantasy 7 Remake.

That’s at the time of writing, although it’s worth pointing out that the poll is still open.

The result contradicts a recent Famitsu poll, which suggests that the Final Fantasy 7 Remake is the more popular game.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake received 864 votes, while Kingdom Hearts 3 scored 543 votes.
