Samsung Galaxy S8 and Note 8 latest rival has one massive Android advantage

The IFA technology show in Berlin has seen the release of a host of new Android smartphones.

which includes a giant 6-inch edge-to-edge display and there were plenty of updates from firms such as Honor.

But for Android fans probably one of the biggest announcements has come from Sony.

The Japanese tech giant has just shown off its devices which, along with improved camera and processor, also come pre-loaded with Android Oreo.

This latest version of Google’s operating system has only just been released to the public and includes a number of updates over its Nougat predecessor.

The eighth major software iteration includes notification dots on app icons, picture-in-picture video playback, and autofill to quickly and securely enter passwords and other personal information in website forms.

Oreo will also restrict background apps from draining the battery to help eek more usage from each charge.

Google has completely overhauled its emoji design – ditching the Flubber-like blobs in favour of a round design closer to those seen on the iPhone.

Sony has certainly put itself one step ahead of its rivals by including Oreo out of the box, especially as it could be months before Samsung’s latest flagships get this latest update.

When Google launched Android Nougat last year many Samsung owners were still waiting for the update six months later.

Along with featuring Android Oreo, Sony’s latest smartphone also includes the ability to 3D scan objects using its camera and some clever software called 3D creator.

Sony says this new feature will allow users to send these scans to friends and even get them 3D printed.
