Liam Payne's challenging solo career so far after latest cancelled gig setback

Liam Payne has sparked concerns after being forced to his cancel tour of South America due to health issues.

The tour marked the former One Direction star’s comeback after spending 100 days at a treatment centre in Louisiana to seek help for his problems with alcohol.

Payne’s solo career began after One Direction announced their hiatus a year after Zayn Malik left the group in 2015.

The singer quickly signed his first ever solo record deal with Republic Records in October 2016, and in May 2017, Payne released an upbeat track called Strip That Down, written by Ed Sheeran.

The track performed amazingly in the charts, reaching Number 3 in the Official UK Charts and Number 10 on the US Billboard Hot 100.

The success of his first single led Payne to his next two tracks – Get Low, which he collaborated with Zedd for, and bonus track Bedroom Floor.

Payne garnered his first ever solo BRIT Award nominations at the 2018 ceremony, with his debut single Strip That Down being nominated in the British Single and British Artist Video of the Year categories.

The singer went on to collaborate with DJ Jonas Blue’s 2018 anthem Polaroid, alongside Canadian singer Lennon Stella. The track reached Number 12 on the UK Singles Chart and has since sold two million records.

In December 2019, Payne finally released his debut solo album, LP1, which had previously been due over a year prior in September 2018. LP1 peaked at Number 17 on the Official UK Charts.

But despite his success the following year in and out of the music world – including a huge campaign for Hugo Boss – Payne stumbled upon another hitch.

In 2021, the musician reportedly parted ways with his agency, KIN, which signed him when he first launched his solo career in 2016.

A source claimed to The Sun at the time: “There are concerns right now for Liam because he isn’t committed to anything. His management were at the end of their tether and said enough is enough. They didn’t know what else they could do to help him.

“It is hard for him seeing his bandmate Harry Styles having acclaim across the globe but the truth is that Liam has let himself go and is feeling lost.”

Payne took to his YouTube channel earlier this year to address the “life-changing moment” , saying his appearance on Logan Paul’s podcast Impaulsive sparked his decision to seek help.

Reflecting on how he felt after seeing himself speaking to Logan, Payne admitted: “I became somebody I didn’t really recognise anymore and I’m sure you guys didn’t either. I was so angry at what was going on around me that instead of taking a look inwards I decided to take it outwards on everybody else.”

Now, the star seems to be in a much better place but fans have been left worried after he announced he had to cancel his forthcoming concerts after being rushed to hospital with a serious kidney infection.

The singer told fans in a Twitter video: “It’s with a heavy heart I have to tell you that we have no other choice but to postpone my upcoming tour of South America.

“Over the past week I’ve been in hospital with a serious kidney infection, it’s something I wouldn’t wish on anyone, and doctors orders are that I now need to rest and recover.”
