North Korea’s Kim Jong-un ‘satisfied’ with sister’s Winter Olympics visit amid US pressure

In a marked change from last year’s fiery rhetoric, the North Korean leader said it is important to boost the “warm climate of reconciliation and dialogue” after meeting with with his sister and the rest of the delegation that spent three days in the South for the Winter Olympics.

Kim Jong-un also expressed “satisfaction” over their visit and said efforts made by Seoul to prioritise their visit were “very impressive”.

The news comes after the tyrannical leader invited his South Korean counterpart, Moon Jae-in, to the North in what would be the first summit in more than a decade between Korean leaders.

Mr Moon said the Koreas should “make it happen” and encouraged the North to return to negotiations with the US.

However, US vice president Mike Pence has reiterated his belief that South Korea and the US are in agreement on the need to maintain pressure on North Korea despite the warmer ties.

Mr Pence attended the Opening Ceremony of the Games where he was seated near Kim Jong-un’s sister, Kim Yo-jong.

However, he said there is “no daylight” between the US and South Korea on the issue and reiterated demands for North Korea to move towards denuclearisation.
