Roger Federer: HUGE claim about tennis legend after Australian Open win over Hyeon Chung

Federer created another piece of history by reaching a record seventh Australian Open final after Hyeon Chung was forced to withdraw from their semi-final match.

He has only lost once in his previous six final appearances at Melbourne, back in 2009 against Rafael Nadal in a thrilling five-setter.

This time he faces Marin Cilic in a repeat of the 2017 Wimbledon final where Federer won in straight sets.

The 36-year-old is arguably the greatest male tennis player to play the sport having won 19 Grand Slams.

But with Federer on the verge of winning his 20th, former world No 1 Wilander astonishingly believes Federer is getting even better with age.

“This was his 14th semi-final at the Australian Open, but he has lost seven and that was the only blemish on his record,” Wilander said on Eurosport.

“I think that Roger Federer is playing the best tennis of his career.

“I think he’s a better player this year than last year.

“This year he’s showing us that whenever he needs to, today it was from the beginning, he needed to step on the gas straight away and prove a point and he did.

“He got his opponent to throw in the towel when he needed to.

“He seems so relaxed, so happy and so determined in a way.”
