Merkel’s own party members demand she resigns so they can have a ‘fresh start’

The leader of the Christian Democrats (CDU) in the city has called for a fresh start without the Chancellor and her top leadership personnel.

This comes after Mrs Merkel failed to get a majority in the September election after her party suffered their worst election for more than 50 years.

The CDU in the area have also called for a vote on the potential coalition between the Social Democrats (SPD) and the CDU.

Mrs Merkel’s CDU party is poised to sign a deal with the Social Democrats (SPD) which could see a new coalition between the two parties following nearly four months without a German government.

The CDU district councillor for the area Jorg Woidniok demanded the resignation of Mrs Merkel back in September when she failed to clinch a majority in the German elections.

He told Germany’s Epoch Times: “If a boss of a business does badly, he steps back.

“The election results were important for Mrs Merkel and so now she has to step back for another person to take over.”

The CDU member said that Mrs Merkel has not done enough to analyse the election results and she believes she has done everything right.

Merkel’s party lost votes to the far-right Alternative for Germany party after migration issues in the country.

Germany has taken in one million migrants over the past two years, which has resulted in tensions and integration issues.

The Freiburg CDU said that the Chancellor has not learned anything from the election results.

They believe that the core issues of Germany, which are migration, security and democracy, must be solved.

The chairman of the CDU’s city association, Holgar Reuter, said: “The demand for the restoration of inner-party democracy is more urgent than ever.

“The demand for a membership vote on the coalition agreement remains a core requirement”.
