Nintendo Switch owners could be in for a surprise, as the company files a trademark for a classic gaming series.
Nintendo has filed a new trademark for 1080° Ten Eighty, which suggests the classic snowboarding series is coming back.
“Nintendo has filed a trademark registration for 1080° Ten Eighty,” Pixelpar tweeted.
“1080° Snowboarding was first released on N64 in 1998, hitting the Wii’s Virtual Console 10 years later (in 2008). The sequel “1080° Avalanche” was released on GameCube in 2003.”
While the filing could be for a new game in the series, it could be more proof that N64 and Gamecube releases are coming to Virtual Console.

Update 4.0.0 lets users use classic Gamecube controllers via USB.
It was also revealed that Super Mario Galaxy, The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, New Super Mario Bros. Wii and Punch-out!! are coming to the NVIDIA Shield.
While it’s unlikely we’ll see these games on NVIDIA devices outside of China, it’s worth pointing out that the Nintendo Switch uses Nvidia’s Tegra chip technology.
Elsewhere, Nintendo has revealed the top-20 most-played games on the Switch.
According to a Nintendo of America newsletter, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild was the most-played Nintendo Switch game of 2017.
This was followed by Super Mario Odyssey in second place and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe in third.
While the top three games shouldn’t come as much of a shock, there are a few surprises sprinkled throughout the list.
Stardew Valley is sixth in the games list, while Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth+ charts at ten.
Despite amassing a huge following elsewhere, Rocket League – which seems a perfect fit for Nintendo Switch – only just makes the top 20.
