Queen has photos of THIS royal couple on her desk during Christmas speech today

The Queen, 91, speaks to the nation in a televised address every Christmas Day.

This year, Her Majesty is wearing festive white, and sits at a desk in the 1844 Room at Buckingham Palace for part of the speech.

On the desk, alongside a pen and paper, are three photographs in frames.

But which couple is the Queen choosing to honour, in a year which has seen Kate Middleton, 35, and Prince William, 35, announce they are expecting their third child, and Prince Harry, 33, get engaged to Meghan Markle, 36?

The Queen in fact has a picture of herself and Prince Philip, 96, on the desk.

The first image, a black and white photograph, shows the couple on their wedding day, looking into each other’s eyes.

The second, larger picture, is a very recent photo, and the duo echo their wedding photograph by standing next to each other and looking towards each other.

It is perhaps no surprise the Queen has chosen to reference her marriage in this way, as Prince Philip announced his retirement from public life earlier this year.

She has previously described the Duke of Edinburgh as her “strength and stay all these years”.

An allusion is also made to the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s growing family, as the third photo on the desk is of Prince George, 4, and Princess Charlotte, 2.

The double frame shows the children both smiling in individual portraits.

They will soon be joined by another sibling, as Kate is due to give birth in April 2018.

Prince Harry and Meghan do not make an appearance on the desk, but it is not clear yet whether their happy news will get a mention in the speech itself.

The Queen wears a white dress for the address, which features a white ribbon and silver and gold dots.

A large diamond brooch, in the shape of a snowflake, is pinned to the ribbon and Her Majesty wears a string of pearls on her neck.

Matching pearl earrings are worn in her ears, and her hair is blow dried into her usual style.
