Initially played by Tim Curry in the 1990s, the Stephen King creation will now be played by Bill Skarsgard.
But viewers who aren’t already familiar with him are in for a surprise.
For when Skarsgard isn’t playing a child-killing super-villain, he’s rather dashing.
The 27-year-old Swedish star’s profile is sure to skyrocket off the back of the movie – but here’s what he looks like out of scary clown clobber.
Skarsgard has a number of roles in the pipeline: in 2018 he’ll be part of the Castle Rock TV series, and he’s to play Philip II of Spain in Emperor.
He’ll also be voicing Moomintroll in Moomins and the Winter Wonderland later this year – an enormous contrast with It.
He’s already been in cinemas this summer, too: playing Merkel in Atomic Blonde.
He said of Pennywise earlier this year: “An important thing for me in terms of preparing and creating the character was thinking ‘What are the things that I would find really unsettling?’ And then explore that.
“Your own kind of fears and what you find disturbing and amplify that in terms of the performance.”
Speaking to Collider, he added: “Essentially, what you’ll end up seeing in the film is my own deepest fears embodied in this character!”
It is out on September 8.
