Britain’s successful departure from the EU would prove to other nations that another way is possible, Beatrix von Storch, the deputy leader of anti-immigration party AfD, said.
She hinted Brexit could still start a chain reaction of other countries leaving the EU.
Mrs von Storch told Express.co.uk: “The British have opened a window by voting for Brexit.
“They have proven that European integration goes both ways. There is not only a way in to the EU, but a way out too.”
AfD began as an anti-European party, and has spoken out especially strongly against the uncontrolled immigration in the EU.

The party enjoyed a record performance at this year’s German election with 12.6 per cent of the vote, which has in turn caused chaos for Angela Merkel as she struggles to build a pro-EU coalition to have a majority in parliament.
Mrs von Storch hailed the Brexit vote as ‘Independence Day for Great Britain’ – and many in her party would like to see Germany quit the bloc too.
Her comments will be received by many as a sign the right-wing anti-immigration party is preparing its own EU exit bid.
However she also suggested Brexit could make the EU better for countries like Germany that will remain members.
She said: “In the long term, Britain’s departure will create more competition, and pressure on the EU to reform will grow. That is good for Europe.”
The German MP also expressed hopes for a trade deal between Germany and the UK, amid fears a loss of British custom would affect jobs in Germany.
She said: “Free trade with Britain is in the German interest. Trade barriers between the EU and the UK would cost jobs in Germany.
“There should be no tariffs between the EU and the UK, but every country should decide for itself over immigration.
“The UK is a very important partner for Germany and we should continue to work together as closely as possible after the UK leaves the EU.”
