Overcooked Nintendo Switch REVIEW: Is this the best co-op multiplayer game on Switch?

Overcooked: Special Edition joined the Nintendo Switch games list earlier this year, but was marred by one or two performance issues.

But with Overcooked developer Ghost Town Games about to release a new update to fix the dodgy frame rates, now seems like a good time to review the kitchen-based co-op multiplayer game.

In case it’s passed you by, Overcooked: Special Edition is a co-operative cooking game with 44 campaign levels, which are available in single player and co-op.

There’s nine versus levels, which can be played in head-to-head local multiplayer, as well as 22 different chefs, including human characters, a racoon, dinosaur, French bulldog, robot and a reindeer.

There are also a variety of different kitchens and recipes that include soup, burritos, burgers, fish and chips and more.

Is Overcooked: Special Edition a tasty multiplayer treat for Nintendo Switch? Check out the review gallery below to find out more…

Overcooked: Special Edition is a true multiplayer gem that’s simple enough for anybody to pick up and play, but takes some serious skills to master.

Best played with 2-4 people, it’s local multiplayer perfection where communication is key. It starts off innocently enough, but it’s not long before well meaning requests and instructions make way for screaming and shouting.

This is because you never know what’s coming next. The wonderfully designed levels are packed with moving parts and obstacles, forcing players to abandon their roles and adopt new strategies.

It’s also tailor made for Nintendo Switch, featuring portable multiplayer thanks to those detachable Joy-con controllers.

Unfortunately, however, Overcooked: Special Edition has one or two issues that will leave a sour taste in your mouth.

Overcooked has limited single-player appeal, and it’s disappointing that it doesn’t have online multiplayer.

The Switch version also has some noticeable frame rate problems, which detract from the chaotic nature of the game.

Ghost Town Games has submitted a patch that will bring the frame rate in line with the PS4 and Xbox One versions, so hopefully this won’t continue to be a problem for long.

Technical issues aside, Ghost Town Games has cooked up a multiplayer treat that deserves to be in every Nintendo Switch games collection.

With a ton of stages, portable multiplayer and a wide range of unlockables, Overcooked: Special Edition is a delicious dish that’s best served on Switch.
