Nintendo Switch games news – Stardew Valley and Yooka-Laylee set for big reveal?

Nintendo Switch owners are set to receive some big games news at the Nindies Summer Showcase being broadcast tomorrow.

The event, which will focus on big indie games heading to the Switch, will be live streamed on YouTube at 10am PT/12pm CT/1pm ET / 6pm BST.

A number of indie games which have already been announced for Nintendo Switch could have the spotlight shown on them.

Stardew Valley, Yooka-Laylee, SteamWorld Dig 2, Pocket Rumble, Runner3, Dandara, Axiom Verge, and Lumo are all expected to appear on the Switch soon.

More details on these games as well as their release dates could be revealed at the Nindies Summer Showcase event.

Stardew Valley, an indie farming game, was first released on PCs and Macs in February 2016 before heading to PS4 and Xbox One in December 2016.

It is a role-playing game where players take control of a character that moves away from the hustle and bustle of city life to work on a farm.

They take over their grandfather’s dilapidated farm at a place in Stardew Valley to grow crops and raise livestock.

Other activities include crafting goods, mining for ores, socialising in the community and romances leading towards marriage.

Stardew Valley will feel right at home on a Nintendo console as it was inspired heavily by the Harvest Moon series.

The first game in the Marvellous developed series appeared on the SNES back in 1996 and then arrived a year later on the Game Boy.

The Harvest Moon series has now splintered off into two different series – Harvest Moon and Story of Seasons.

The Story of Seasons games are developed by the original Harvest Moon developer Marvellous.

They decided back in 2014 to use its own American branch to distribute the series.

However, previous publisher Natsume still owns the Harvest Moon name – and are continuing on the series without Marvellous.

The creator of Harvest Moon, Yasuhiro Wada, has spoken previously about Stardew Valley and how the torch for farming games has been passed over.

He said: “I actually met Eric Barone [Stardew Valley creator] recently; I told him I was very happy. Instead of Harvest Moon being forgotten, it has become powered up and it has gotten even better. It’s still living on, even though I’m not working on it anymore. I’m really happy that’s happening.”

Yooka-Laylee, meanwhile, is the spiritual successor the classic N64 platformers Banjo-Kazooie and Banjo-Tooie.

It started life as a Kickstarter backed project, with the game originally pencilled in for a Wii U release.

However, that version of Yooka-Laylee has been scrapped with the Nintendo Switch being the only Nintendo console it’s heading to.
