Chelsea do NOT need Eden Hazard to compete with European elite – Cesc Fabregas

The Belgium international was dropped to the bench for Chelsea’s game against Swansea on Wednesday night.

He came on for the final nine minutes but Antonio Rudiger’s first goal for the club was enough for Chelsea to claim all three points.

It was far from a convincing performance from Antonio Conte’s side, with the Chelsea boss being sent to the stands in the first half.

But the win ensured they kept the pressure up on both Manchester clubs and remained ahead of their other top four rivals.

Hazard has only recently returned to full fitness for Chelsea but has displayed exactly why he is one of the most feared wingers in Europe with some excellent performances.

And Fabregas was delighted to see his team put in a winning display without their star man starting.

“To know that the team is performing and winning without Eden really being involved is very good,” Fabregas told the London Evening Standard.

“We started the season without him and he didn’t start against Swansea because he is the best player (and needed a rest).

“We have to cope with the situation. No-one can play every three days even if we want to.

“If you keep playing, you will keep carrying knocks so it is good to have a break sometimes and come back fresher.”
