Six more episodes are still on their way to wrap up the tenth and penultimate season of The Walking Dead with a bang. Thankfully, the story will still continue on AMC, with an 11th and final instalment on the way later this year, as well as a multitude of announced spin-offs in early development. Principal star Norman Reedus has touched on what his return as Daryl Dixon could mean for the expanding franchise.
The Walking Dead is set to continue the story with numerous spin-offs following the conclusion of the flagship series’ 11th season next year.
Main cast member and series lead, following the departure of Rick Grimes (played by Andrew Lincoln) in season nine, Norman Reedus is set to head his own spin-off following the show’s conclusion.
Rugged and resilient survivor Daryl Dixon will also be joined by Carol Peletier (Melissa McBride) for the as yet untitled series.
Previewing the upcoming spin-off, Reedus said: “I can tell you what my hopes are for it.”

“My hopes are that they kick us out of the gate with it, like a rocket ship.”
Season ten of The Walking Dead remained one of the most popular weekly cable dramas in the US, and the quintessential zombie series’ final season could break records for the franchise.
With that in mind, Reedus and the cast are undoubtedly feeling the pressure to deliver the best finale possible when season 11 finally comes around.
He continued: “I think we owe it to ourselves and owe it to the fans of The Walking Dead to really kill it this last season, to really make it as exciting as the biggest finale of the biggest season ever.”
“I feel like we owe it to each other. So with that said, I really hope they kick us up out of the gate for the spin-off running.”
With the new TWD offshoot speculated to take place following the events of the current timeline, Daryl and Carol remain two of the show’s most enduring survivors.
The star also admitted his hopes for the franchise to move away from its high death count and offer a more optimistic approach to a deadly viral outbreak in the coming years.
He added: “But also, I’m hoping that the timing is great as well, and I’m hoping that the time that the show is ready to air that the pandemic is over, that the curtains have opened, the sun has come out, people are starting to hug again, and it’s a show of hope.”

In the wake of extensive coronavirus delays and the continuing effects of the global health crisis, Reedus maintained TWD can still provide much needed brevity and escapism from our current reality.
The Walking Dead was absent throughout much of the pandemic, due to post-production delays stalling the release of the season ten finale, A Certain Doom.
Now the series is set to make its grand return this Sunday, February 28, Reedus is looking ahead to what impact the popular zombie franchise could make in a post-pandemic world.
He speculated: “I feel like it’s been such a rough year, and a rough couple of years, and I feel like I want the world to be the Age of Aquarius again and the sun to come out and the trumpets blaring and we go out in a different sort of way.”
“I hope that it’s a show of hope, and it’s a show of friendship, and it has a vibe like that.”
Daryl and Carol’s new series will also air alongside pre-existing spin-offs Fear the Walking Dead and the upcoming second and final instalment of World Beyond.
No release date has been set so far, but production will likely start at some point next year once the climactic 11th season of The Walking Dead comes to an end.
The Walking Dead season 10 will continue with 6 bonus episodes, starting Sunday, February 28 on AMC, and the following Monday on Fox.
