Nintendo Switch games update and news to rival Legend of Zelda and Super Mario?

A recent Nintendo Switch games update has teased a new launch that could rival the console’s biggest titles.

The Switch is not without its top exclusives, which have done much to power it to early success.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild became the early benchmark for all games to stack up against and has been a hard one to beat in terms of hype.

Having launched with the console – and on Wii U – it helped sell consoles and pave the way for further success.

Another game that is set to push the Nintendo Switch along is Super Mario Odyssey.

Odyssey won’t be arriving in Europe until 27th October, although it’s likely to eclipse Zelda Breath of the Wild to become the Nintendo Switch’s next mega-hit.

But what about further in the future?

We know that that Metroid and Pokemon franchises are heading to the new console and will likely prove very popular.

But there could also be a few third-party hits to rival the usual crowd.

Square Enix has hinted that a new Final Fantasy 15 title could be coming to the console.

The game’s director Hajime Tabata appeared on a Twitch stream at Gamescom, hinting that a new FFXV project could be in the works.

Speaking through a translator Tabata commented that “We can’t give you any complete solid details at the moment”, but the option of expanding the franchise is one they hope to keep doing.

Tabata then added: “There’s another certain console out there that you may be thinking of, it sounds a little bit like your name Twitch.”

This can only mean the Nintendo Switch and something Final Fantasy 15-shaped being released on it.

The only thing is, we don’t know what that could be.

It seems very unlikely that the Switch could handle the base game, which would need to be downgraded somewhat to appear on the hybrid device.

There’s a chance that Square Enix would do this, having seen the recent commercial success of the console.

And with so many different FFXV side-projects announced, the publisher could also push something else in the future.

For instance, a mobile version of the game called Final Fantasy XV Pocket Edition was announced today and seems another candidate to be ported over to the Switch.

Following his comments concerning an FFXV project on the Switch, Tabata spoke to IGN about the chances of the Pocket Edition appearing sometime in the future.

“Obviously we’d have to think about what the meaning and what the significance of bringing this to Switch would be,” he explained.

“You know, whether people would want to play it and whether it would be the right thing to do for our team.”

One problem would be that the Pocket Edition doesn’t currently include controller support, something that Square Enix would have to take into consideration with the Switch and its docking requirements.
