Fanning the flames? Spain risks fury with Catalonia leader Halloween costume

Halloween lovers across the country are rushing to fancy dress shops to stock up on the ‘costume of Puigdemont’.

With tensions at breaking point between supporters of independence in Catalonia and ministers in Spain, who claim the referendum was illegal, any Halloween outfits could strain and stir relations.

This iconic costume consists of a jacket with a sleeveless shirt, black tie, a black wig and glasses.

The outfit is available in a complete pack to buy for £35.

The competition costumes for the Mr Puigdemont outfit this year are the super-villain Harley Quinn and Wonder Women.

Halloween in Spain is a three-day celebration, known as El Dia de los Muertos, which means the Day of the Dead.

The Spanish news outlet Ok Diario said: “The bad news is that the outfit has caused such excitement that it as already sold out in shops across Spain.”

The festival is about honouring the deal and celebrating life.

The Catalan tradition of Halloween included the tradition of La Castanyada, which included events, music concerts and stalled filled with chestnuts, sweet potatoes and sweet wine.

Mr Puigdemont has urged his supporters to remain peaceful following the declaration of independence in the region.

Spain’s Senate has voted to approve measures that will allow the government to intervene in Catalan autonomy.

The fancy dress outfit of President Donald Trump was a popular one for party goers last year.

The fact that Trump and Puigdemont are popular outfits shows that media personalities are taking over from the traditional outfits of zombies.

Mr Puigdemont could face 30 years in jail if the Spanish Attorney General succeeds in pushing for rebellion charges over the independence referendum.

This comes amid fears of violence on the streets across Spain.
