BREXIT: David Davis to DEMAND Eurocrats ‘show some imagination and GET ON with the deal’

The minister and his crack team of negotiators are due to march on Brussels and push the EU to see sense on their negotiation stalling tactics on Bank holiday Monday.

Mr Davis is expected to use the third set of talks since negotiations began to remind the the “clock is ticking”.

It comes after weeks of stalling from the bloc, who have refused to discuss the bulk of the Brexit deal until citizens rights and the extortionate £92bn (€100bn) divorce bill are settled.

Now the UK is set to tell Michel Barnier’s team of Eurocrats to be more “flexible” in their approach to the agreement.

A UK government insider said: “This round of negotiations will focus on thrashing out the technical detail on important matters related to us leaving the EU, and will act as a stepping stone to more substantial talks in September.

“The UK has been working diligently to inform the negotiations in the past weeks, and has published papers making clear our position on a wide range of issues from how we protect the safe flow of personal data, to the circumstances around Ireland and Northern Ireland.

“Now, both sides must be flexible and willing to compromise when it comes to solving areas where we disagree.

“As the EU itself has said, the clock is ticking so neither side should drag its feet.”

It comes as people close to the negotiations claim Britain will be tough on the bloc’s demands for billions of pounds in upcoming talks.

A source said: “The Great British Bake Off is on television at the moment.

“We will make it clear to them that they have massively over-egged the pudding.”

While both sides of the negotiating table believe there will be financial commitments between the two parties, the 27-nation superstate’s demands for billions of pounds has caused outrage among many in the Government.

Ardent Eurosceptic and rising star of the Conservative party Jacob Rees-Mogg has repeatedly asserted the UK legally doesn’t owe the bloc a penny, while Boris Johnson has told Brussels they can “go whistle” following the demand.

Now as the talks heat up British negotiators are set to refuse to offer a figure for a financial settlement with the EU – and will not give ground to Michel Barnier’s team of Eurocrats on any decisions which would allow them to put a price on Brexit.

And the combative Britons will work to stop Brussels from a step by step approach to the bill which could see the charge to UK taxpayers slowly ramping up.

Speaking to the Telegraph, the source added: “The EU wants to do the settlement in salami slices, step by step and up and up.

“That ain’t going to happen. We are not going to play that game.

“We are not going to be salami-sliced with an incremental approach.”
