Nintendo news: Big Nintendo Switch update arrives following SNES Mini Classic reveal

A big new Nintendo Switch update has been launched today which will prove among gamers.

Having only launched back in March, the Japanese games giant are still slowly building up feature support for the hybrid device.

While there’s still plenty missing from the Switch, the latest Nintendo update should help a lot toward adding a few more options.

The Nintendo Switch 4.0 Update was launched tonight and includes some big features, like video capture support and new options to transfer data to a new system.

Video capture is now available for consoles with system menu version 4.0.0 or higher, but is only compatible with a handful of titles.

The platform allows you to display contact information, social media links, services, and products all in one shareable link. Optional features include appointment scheduling, WhatsApp-based storefronts, media galleries, and custom design options.

These include: The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, ARMS and Splatoon 2.

To start capturing footage in a compatible game, press and hold down the Capture Button on the left Joy-Con.

Nintendo notes that up to thirty seconds of gameplay prior to pressing the Capture Button will be saved, with the captured videos available within the Album.

To edit or trim a saved gameplay video:

  • Within the HOME Menu, select “Album” > “All Screenshots and Videos.”
  • Select a video to edit, then select “Editing and Posting” > “Trim.”
  • Slide the left marker to adjust the start of the video. Then press “Next” and slide the right marker to adjust where the video ends.
  • When you are done, select “Save.” The edited video will be saved as a new video.

The other new feature is being able to transfer user information and save data to a new system.

It should be noted that by doing this, you will be performing a permanent migration of data, with Nintendo confirming: “Once the process is complete, the user information, the associated save data, and the software purchased with the user account that is transferred will no longer be available on the source console.”

More from Nintendo on the subject: “Transferring user information and save data allows you to move your user profile and its associated save data and Nintendo eShop purchases from one Nintendo Switch console to another.

“Data is moved one user at a time, meaning you can pick and choose which user’s data you would like to move and which user’s data you would like to retain on the source console.”

It follows news of a new device that could prove pretty intriguing to those who have so far missed out on nabbing a SNES Mini Classic.

While Nintendo have confirmed that they will supporting the SNES Classic for longer than first confirmed, there doesn’t seem to be a solution to stock problems in sight.

However, for those who are willing to dip into the retro market, there could be a tasty new alternative.

A new device has been announced that could go along way to plugging those gaps.

The Super Nintendo – Super Nt – console has just been revealed, with pre order starting to roll out.

This aftermarket system is made by Analogue and could certainly provide a great new way to get into retro gaming.

It could be shaping up to the best post-launch system available, although it looks set to cost almost twice as much as the SNES Classic.

Here’s what the Super Nt is looking to accomplish: “A reimagining of perhaps the greatest video game system of all time. Engineered with an FPGA.

“No emulation. 1080p. Zero lag. Total accuracy. The Super Nt is not a plug n’ play toy. It is the definitive way to explore Nintendo’s 16-bit era. Compatible with the 2,200+ SNES and Super Famicom game cartridge library.

“Explore and re-live one of the greatest video game systems of all time with no compromises.

“16bit in 1080p is stunning. Every pixel is razor sharp, producing an astounding level of clarity. You’ll experience video quality so extraordinary – it’s like playing SNES for the first time.

“You can finally play SNES wirelessly and lag-free with 8Bitdo’s high quality retro SN30 controller.”
