James Bond: Sir Roger Moore honoured with Pinewood Stage as former 007 stars pay tribute

Last Saturday would have been Sir Roger Moore’s 90th birthday, following the James Bond star’s death in May.

On Sunday he was honoured by Pinewood Studios, where he made his record breaking seven 007 movies in the 1970s and 1980s, with The Roger Moore Stage – unveiled in his honour. Members of Sir Roger’s family, cast, crew and friends from over the years came to pay tribute – including Bond girls and villains.

Bond girls included: Madeline Smith, Gloria Hendry and Madeline Smith from Live and Let Die; Lynn-Holly Johnson from For Your Eyes Only and Eunice Gayson, the first Bond girl from Dr No and From Russia With Love.

While Bond villains included: Tony and David Mayer, who played henchmen in Octopussy, Steven Berkoff who played the villainous General Orlov in Octopussy and John Wynam from For Your Eyes Only.

A statement posted through Sir Roger’s official Twitter account read: “On what would have been Sir Roger Moore’s 90th birthday weekend, the studio he called home for over 40 productions has today unveiled The Roger Moore Stage in his honour.

“HRH The Countess of Wessex opened the stage and led the afternoon celebration of 300 cast, crew, family and friends.

“On-stage tributes came from Dame Joan Collins, Sir Michael Caine, Bond producers Michael G Wilson & Barbara Broccoli and, on behalf of UNICEF, David Walliams.”

It added: “Several of the star’s vehicles adorned the stately studio gardens, as a capacity crowd – including Stefanie Powers, Stephen Fry, Sanjeev Bhaskar, Lord Grade of Yarmouth, Sir Tim Rice along with Bond girls Madeline Smith, Gloria Hendry and Lynn-Holly Johnson – enjoyed a post-ceremony afternoon tea.

“Lady Moore and the star’s three children paid an emotional end tribute, saying just how proud Roger would be to see his name dominate the Pinewood lot.”
