EU warned by Philippines president after outcry over drug crackdown: ‘Don’t f*** with us!’

Mr Duterte warned the European Union: “Don’t f*** with us”, as he continues his uncompromising war on the drugs trade.

His outburst came after there was an international outcry over his brutal crackdown on both drug dealers and users, which has seen more than 12,500 Filipinos killed in the past 12 months, with almost 4,000 of those killed during police operations.

In a speech in the country’s capital Manila, Mr Duterte said: “You think that we are a bunch of morons here… The ambassadors of those countries learn a lesson now. Because we can have the diplomatic channels cut tomorrow, you leave my country in 24 hours, all of you.”

He added in a rambling address, he said: “You are interfering in our affairs. “We are past the colonisation stage. Don’t f*** with us.

“You must have taken the Philippines for granted, saying that we could be excluded.”

Mr Duterte implemented his hardline anti-drugs policy after he came to power in June 2016.

The UK, along with 38 other countries, at the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC) in Geneva called for the Phillippines to end the killings and to allow an international investigation into the deaths.

Mr Duterte was further angered by the UNHRC director John Fisher after he suggested that the Philippines could be kicked out of the UNHRC as well as a group of European parliamentarians who told him publicly to “stop the killings”.

The Philippines, Mr Duterte claimed, was angry at the West for “stealing our resources” and denounced the US, UK and France in particular, suggesting that plundering the Middle East had led to modern day terrorism.

He said: “You built your riches, you were ahead in the industrial race of planet earth because you stole the greatest resource of the Arabs – oil.

“You colonised there, then started to divide the Middle East – the United States, UK, France, and that is why you are paying heavily now with terrorism.

“May you end up happy for what you have done.”

At the end of August Mr Duterte issued a stark message to his police and military forces telling them to “kill” anyone who violently resisted arrest.

He said: “You are free to kill the idiots. Tell your men that, whenever their life is in danger and they are in the actual performance of a duty, their duty requires them to overcome the resistance of the person they are arresting.

“Not only just shouting at him to surrender because if he does not and he resists and it’s a violent resistance placing in jeopardy the lives of my policemen and the military.”
