Trump to Hold Rally in Michigan, Marking 100th Day
President Donald Trump is planning a rally in Michigan to commemorate his 100th day in office, as announced by White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt on Wednesday. This Michigan rally underscores the importance of the state in Trump’s political strategy, especially after his previous victory there.
Macomb County Rally
“President Trump is eager to return to the great state of Michigan next Tuesday, where he will hold a rally in Macomb County to celebrate the FIRST 100 DAYS!” Leavitt stated on X.
First Major Rally Since Inauguration
This trip represents Trump’s first significant rally since his inauguration in January. It also marks his initial visit to the pivotal battleground state since narrowly defeating Kamala Harris to secure Michigan in November.
Michigan’s Significance in 2024 Election
Michigan held a prominent place in Trump’s campaign strategy during the 2024 election cycle, with over two dozen visits to the state, including at least three in Macomb County, located near Detroit in southeastern Michigan.
Dominance in Macomb County
He comfortably won the Republican-leaning county, surpassing Harris by a significant margin.

Meeting with Governor Whitmer Precedes Rally
Trump’s visit to Michigan occurs weeks after his meeting with Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, which followed his decision to implement tariffs on numerous nations, many of which were subsequently reduced.
Whitmer’s Visit to the Oval Office
Whitmer initially intended to meet with Trump privately to address the tariffs, manufacturing and other crucial Michigan matters.
Instead, she was unexpectedly brought into the Oval Office during a media event where Trump signed an executive order instructing the Justice Department to investigate officials from his first administration. He also reiterated his debunked claims regarding the 2020 election.
Images captured Whitmer standing uncomfortably by a door, shielding her face with a folder as cameras recorded the scene.
“The governor was surprised that she was brought into the Oval Office during President Trump’s press conference without any notice of the subject matter. Her presence is not an endorsement of the actions taken or statements made at that event,” a spokesperson for Whitmer clarified following the event.
It remains uncertain whether Whitmer intends to attend Trump’s upcoming rally or meet with him during his visit to Michigan. Her office did not provide immediate comment Wednesday night.
During the Oval Office event, Trump assured Whitmer of his commitment to collaborating with Democrats to ensure Selfridge Air Force Base, located in Macomb County, remains “open, strong and thriving.”
Whitmer’s Stance on Manufacturing and Tariffs
Prior to her meeting with Trump, Whitmer delivered a speech in Washington advocating for a “consistent national strategy” to stimulate manufacturing. She also voiced concerns about Trump’s tariff policies while acknowledging common ground with the president on the mutual goal of the import penalties.
“I understand the motivation behind the tariffs, and I can tell you here’s where President Trump and I do agree. We do need to make more stuff in America — more cars and chips, more steel and ships. We do need fair trade,” she stated.
In her address, Whitmer also suggested that Trump’s ongoing tariffs on imported vehicles and proposed tariffs on foreign auto parts could disproportionately affect Michigan residents, emphasizing that 20% of the state’s economy is linked to the auto industry.
“We’re already seeing the impacts. Auto companies are stockpiling parts and laying off workers. Suppliers are facing higher costs and delaying expansions. Dealerships will be forced to raise prices by up to $15,000 amid slowing sales. And since every auto job supports three others in the community, the impact will be felt by countless small businesses across Michigan, too,” she added.
Trump’s Upcoming Schedule
Before his visit to Macomb County, Trump is scheduled to travel to Rome to attend the funeral for Pope Francis on Saturday.
