To ready herself for the physically challenging part, Jennifer Lawrence engaged in diverse training techniques. As a cornerstone of Hunger Games training, she incorporated a range of exercises to embody the character effectively.
Rigorous Physical Preparation for the Actors
Lawrence’s Intense Training Regimen
“The training is extensive, but it’s enjoyable,” she shared with MTV News. “I practiced archery for approximately six weeks, along with rock climbing, tree climbing, combat drills, sprinting, and vaulting. I also incorporated yoga and similar practices to maintain agility.”
Hutcherson’s Muscle-Building Diet
Josh Hutcherson also trained intensely before filming commenced. He told Collider in 2012, “I’d never really committed to this level of preparation for a movie, and I gained roughly 15 pounds of muscle. This required a diet rich in chicken, prioritizing high protein and low carbohydrate intake.”
Hemsworth’s Weight Loss Strategy
Liam Hemsworth mentioned that his older brother, Chris Hemsworth of Thor fame, gave him unexpected advice to prepare for the film.
“My brother texted me before the shoot, advising weight loss,” Hemsworth disclosed to The Hollywood Reporter. “He quipped, ‘It’s titled The Hunger Games, not The Eating Games!'”

Accidents and Adjustments During Training
Lawrence’s Training Injury
During the last day of her six-week training program, Lawrence had an incident, colliding with a wall during an exercise, which nearly postponed the production schedule. Hunger Games production faced a potential setback.
“I charged towards it, but my foot slipped, and I struck the wall with my abdomen,” Lawrence recounted to The Hollywood Reporter. “My trainer feared I might have ruptured my spleen. I had to undergo a CAT scan in a confined space where a burning fluid was introduced into my body.” Fortunately, there were no fractures, and a bruised Lawrence was able to proceed with filming.
