Robert Irwin: Carrying on His Father’s Legacy
Robert Irwin has become a renowned figure, stepping into the spotlight while upholding the legacy of his late father, Steve Irwin. As an advocate for wildlife conservation, he continues the work started by his parents.
Born in December 2003, Robert is the younger of Steve and Terri Irwin’s two children. Alongside his older sister, Bindi Irwin, he began emulating their parents’ conservation efforts at a young age, appearing with them on television and at the renowned Australia Zoo.
Robert was only two years old when Steve passed away at age 44 in 2006 due to a stingray injury. Beyond their striking physical resemblance, Robert has persisted in his conservation and wildlife rescue endeavors through photography, television appearances, and regular animal demonstrations at Australia Zoo.
Robert Irwin’s Growing Television Career
Similar to Steve, Robert has cultivated a thriving television career, with appearances on morning shows, late-night programs, and reality series such as Crikey! It’s the Irwins and I’m a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here! In April 2025, it was revealed that Robert would be a contestant on season 34 of Dancing With the Stars in the fall.
Celebrating His 21st Birthday and Honoring Steve Irwin
Robert commemorated Steve while marking his 21st birthday in November 2024. He shared throwback photos of his father on Instagram, captioning them: “Today I turn 21. I was looking through the archives a few days ago and I found these pictures of my dad on his 21st. It can be hard to celebrate the milestones when there’s someone missing, but I will carry his memory and passion with me in this new chapter of life. I am one lucky guy to be surrounded by my amazing family today. Time to celebrate!”
