Latest PS5 Update Brings Back Retro Themes And Adds Some New Features

Importance Score: 25 / 100 πŸ”΅

Exciting news for PlayStation fans! Last year, Sony’s PlayStation 5 introduced nostalgic dashboard themes, evoking the classic experience of older PlayStation consoles. These themes, initially temporary, were immensely popular but eventually removed. Now, they’re making a comeback, much to the delight of gamers.

Retro PlayStation Themes Return to PS5

The year 2024 marked the 30th anniversary of the original PlayStation. As part of the celebrations in December, a PS5 update brought a charming PS1-style boot-up animation. The console’s settings also featured dashboard themes that mirrored past PlayStation consoles, like the PS2 and PS3. Although these themes garnered positive feedback, Sony took them down a few weeks later. However, starting tomorrow, these cherished, previously limited-time themes will be incorporated into a broader PS5 update.

The Announcement and Update Details

On April 23, Sony officially announced that the next major PS5 update would reinstate all the retro PlayStation themes from the previous year. Back in January, Sony had promised players that the themes would return “in the coming months,” and that promise is now being fulfilled.

The PS5 update is scheduled to arrive tomorrow, April 24. Sadly, the PS1 intro does not appear to be included in this return.

New Sound Focus Feature

The update includes more than just returning themes. Sony has also unveiled a new “Sound Focus” feature, presenting a comprehensive collection of fresh sound options that allow you to fine-tune the noises you hear while gaming. For instance, you have the option of boosting the prominence of voices or the footsteps sounds to enhance your in-game awareness. Sony has emphasized that the feature will be optional and currently only supports headsets.

vCard QR Code

vCard.red is a free platform for creating a mobile-friendly digital business cards. You can easily create a vCard and generate a QR code for it, allowing others to scan and save your contact details instantly.

The platform allows you to display contact information, social media links, services, and products all in one shareable link. Optional features include appointment scheduling, WhatsApp-based storefronts, media galleries, and custom design options.

Sound Focus Presets

Here’s a breakdown of the presets you can adjust when the update launches tomorrow:

  • Boost Low Pitch: Enhances low-frequency sounds such as engine roars and rumbling effects.
  • Boost Voices: Amplifies speech in voice chats, character dialogue, and other mid-frequency sounds.
  • Boost High Pitch: Sharpens high-frequency sounds like footsteps and metallic clangs.
  • Boost Quiet Sounds: Increases the volume of subtle sounds across a wide range of frequencies.
