Here’s How to Use AI in Excel Spreadsheets

Importance Score: 25 / 100 🔵

As someone who isn’t exceptionally skilled with Excel, I sought a more user-friendly method for navigating spreadsheet software and hoped that artificial intelligence could ease the burden. After all, AI is touted for its ability to minimize repetitive, tedious tasks, correct?

My exploration led me to GPT Excel (following three unsuccessful attempts to integrate ChatGPT for Microsoft Excel, including clearing browser data), an AI chatbot and virtual assistant tailored for Excel and Google Sheets, boasting over 500,000 users.

Available in both complimentary and premium tiers (the latter priced at $7 monthly), GPT Excel presents an array of functionalities, including AI Chat, the generation and interpretation of formulas, task automation, SQL integration, data validation and filtering, along with the capacity to produce table templates.

While it may not be the most extravagant solution, its strength resides in its straightforward and concise tools—a fitting characteristic for a domain as intricate as data analysis and its algorithms.

Eager to distill and grasp insights from my Excel data, I centered my attention on the platform’s “Formulas” section, where data can be inputted to either generate or interpret formulas.

vCard QR Code

vCard.red is a free platform for creating a mobile-friendly digital business cards. You can easily create a vCard and generate a QR code for it, allowing others to scan and save your contact details instantly.

The platform allows you to display contact information, social media links, services, and products all in one shareable link. Optional features include appointment scheduling, WhatsApp-based storefronts, media galleries, and custom design options.

How to Summarize Spreadsheet Data Using AI

Here’s the process I followed when attempting to summarize data from my spreadsheet using AI:

  1. Register for an account using your email address or Google account to activate the platform’s free edition. Upon accessing your account’s dashboard, locate and select “Formulas.”
  2. From the dropdown menu, choose Microsoft Excel, then switch to the “Explained” tab positioned at the top of the page. This adjustment will refresh the content within the adjacent copy-and-paste field.
  3. The generated result will populate in the text field below. You have the option to either reset the field and input updated data or copy and transfer this data back into your Excel spreadsheet.
  4. Navigate to the “Best Practices” section situated at the bottom of the interface to access a compilation of 12 guidelines aimed at optimizing the data input process for the most favorable result.

Evaluating GPT Excel: Is It Worth It?

Artificial intelligence is currently a prominent subject. Its widespread adoption underscores its triumph, signifying that the market may be becoming oversaturated.

I cannot entirely disregard the sentiment that while AI-driven organizational tools are intended to reduce repetitive actions and expedite problem-solving, you might find yourself investing an equivalent amount of time navigating the intricate nuances inherent in each product to pinpoint the optimal fit for your requirements.

Although articles—such as this one—serve to address preliminary inquiries, firsthand involvement remains superior to casual recommendations. Tools, regardless of being tangible or operating digitally, are indelibly shaped by unique tastes and viewpoints. My specific reflections on GPT Excel are encapsulated within the ensuing three focal points:

Familiarity

Microsoft Excel initially appeared in 1982 (under the original identifier of Multiplan) as an elemental yet dependable spreadsheet software utility—which has consistently underwent revisions to correspond with consumer requirements. Therefore, when I was sorting through an array Excel-designated AI mechanisms more than four decades subsequently, I unpromptedly inclined toward the apparatus showcasing “Excel” amongst its moniker. My chosen artificial intelligence tool is predominantly the one displaying no frills and possessing a simplified, coherent methodology.

Simplicity

GPT Excel boasts six core function options prominently displayed on its starting interface, which encompasses a designated AI Chat activator enabling aid for any spreadsheet-relevant questions. I utilized the “Formulas” segment for spawning and comprehending data. The typography and design were streamlined. Learning design integrations adds to the time spent using the tool — which again, defeats the purpose of the tool itself.

Cost

The singular distinction between GPT Excel’s free and paid offerings is expedited connectivity with client care and the AI chat support. I understand this aspect as the potential to interact with either a specialist or the AI component directly. Considering that my intended utilization of the feature was solely for data summarizing duties, I was entirely contented with my decision. The complimentary GPT Excel tier accommodates satisfactory features, thus mitigating the necessity of layering another subscription onto the catalogue of memberships presently held previously.

Alternative AI Tools for Spreadsheet Summarization

While my initial attempt to use ChatGPT for Excel was unsuccessful, I identified numerous alternatives—some with a clear emphasis on addressing a specific problem.

A wide array of applications powered by artificial intelligence can distill your data, and several alternatives I located are outlined below. Despite my final reliance on ChatGPT to process my Excel data summary, these supplementary instruments professed similar functional ability for their specific demographic, which at times aligns with ChatGPT’s scope.

Regardless of where your quest for data summarization leads, my sincere sentiment is that navigating through your spreadsheet complexities becomes marginally less daunting.

Knowt

Presenting package offerings designated for students and educators, Knowt assumes an emphasis squarely on pedagogical aims. The platform is capable of transposing data from your Excel sheet into simplified notes and flashcards and also assesses your command of the imported facts—an operation that typically spans less than 30 seconds. Knowt offers a complimentary week-long trial phase and sustains monthly-structured plans oscillating from $2 to $13.

Ajelix BI frames itself as an overarching unified platform presenting 15 distinct productivity-boosting utilities—of these, 10 are Excel AI devices. Its target market falls primarily within “industrious professionals,” encompassing small business proprietors, non-technical project units, plus Mac and Windows clientele. The platform articulates its capabilities to contract problem liquidation by approximately 50%, uncovering intuitive data-driven insights with superior rapidity. Ajelix BI extends a restricted-access free bundle, up to a limitless $200 monthly-tier Business Plus composition.

Julius AI

Julius AI is an AI-driven tool purposed for considerable data concentrations. It is constructed to convert your unorganized data points into digestible visualizations, give relevant data-based resolutions, implement forecasting, troubleshoot technical roadblocks spanning mathematics, physics, and chemical sciences, and predictably engender multifaceted examinations coupled with abbreviated syntheses. Julius AI is rendered by both free-access and upgraded-tier configurations.

The Rows application depicts itself as your distinctly earmarked “personal data analyst,” focusing intently on analyzing, compressing and generally modulating data characteristics. Its authenticated digital homepage specifies that Rows comprises the functional capacity inherent within ChatGPT, absent of scripts-driven modifications, supplemental application installations, or coding prerequisites. It specifies the capability to deliver meaningful insights, categorize, label textual matter, interpret data into an assortment of different lexicons, and set in motion the preliminary phases leading to digital advertisement and promotional operation implementation. Pricing plans for Rows extend expansively from no-cost implementations to $30 premium-tier monthly expenses, which are billed either monthly or yearly.
