Andy Cohen Gets Emotional Recalling Disney World Trip with Kids

Andy Cohen, the Bravo personality, is savoring every moment with his children. The TV host became visibly moved while reflecting on his recent family vacation to Disney World with his son, Benjamin, 6, and daughter, Lucy, soon to be 3, during Monday’s broadcast of SiriusXM’s “Radio Andy.” He expressed how the experience allowed him to witness the magic of Disney through his children’s eyes, calling it a truly joyous experience. This heartwarming anecdote underscores Cohen’s dedication to fatherhood and creating lasting memories with his young family while balancing his high-profile career focusing on entertainment news. Cohen’s comments highlight the profound impact family moments can have, illustrating a personal side often unseen amidst the glitz and glamour of show business.

A “Once-in-a-Lifetime” Experience

“First of all, it really was a once-in-a-lifetime week. It was so incredible as a parent being able to see it through their eyes,” he stated. “It was just great… It was just a really happy, happy week.” This vacation served as a backdrop for creating lasting memories.

A Father-Son Reflection

Despite wondering if his children would retain vivid memories of the holiday as they matured, Cohen choked up while recounting a poignant exchange with his son shortly after their return home.

“I just love these kids so much,” he declared before narrating the story.

A Moment at the Playground

Cohen recounted a visit to the playground where Ben observed an older child, approximately 13 years old.

“And I go, ‘That’s gonna be you… One day you’re gonna be like, “Dude, I don’t want to hang out with you,”‘ he said, humorously suggesting that his son would eventually outgrow spending time with him.

“And he goes, ‘No, I’m not gonna do that,'” Cohen continued, clearly touched by his son’s sentiment.

A Heartfelt Confession

The “Watch What Happens Live” presenter became tearful as he recalled his son’s touching remark regarding their precious moments together.

  • “And he goes, ‘You know, Daddy, when I’m 60’ — oh, I’m gonna cry — he goes, ‘I wanna take a pill so I can come back and be little like this so I can just be with you.'”

Cohen surmised that Ben was beginning to grapple with the concept of his father’s mortality.

“I hate to end the show in tears, but… we had such a deep [talk] and had a long hug on the playground when he was, you know, thinking about that,” he concluded, his voice thick with emotion. These moments shared with his children resonate deeply, reminding him of the importance of cherishing their bond.

“It was a great week. Thank you for letting me share my Disney adventure with you… I have tears all over my face from telling that story.” Cohen’s openness about these experiences provides a glimpse into the life of a devoted father navigating the joys and complexities of raising children. He also hopes to spread some positive news.

Becoming a Dad Later in Life

Cohen, 50 when his son was born via surrogacy in 2019, later welcomed his daughter, Ben’s biological sibling, in 2022. The television personality previously confessed he “never thought it would be possible as a gay man to grow up and have a family,” a dream he always held close. Embracing fatherhood later in life has further enriched his personal journey, solidifying his belief that family knows no bounds.

Finding Purpose in Parenthood

In a 2023 discussion with friend Anderson Cooper, Cohen shared that he felt being a dad was his true calling. He found a sense of purpose that he had never anticipated.

“Your mom loved that Peggy Lee song, ‘Is That All There Is?’ That’s where I was,” he told Cooper, referencing the late Gloria Vanderbilt. “I was approaching 50, and I heard that song in my head. I was like, ‘There’s gotta be a greater purpose for me. This is wonderful, and I absolutely love it. But there has to be a greater purpose.'”

Cohen elaborated that fulfilling that dream and becoming a parent “changed [him] in every way.”

“I think my priorities have completely shifted. I think my sense of accomplishment has totally changed,” he said. “And even just getting your kids breakfast and getting them out to school, when I drop him off at school, I’m like, ‘You did it, dude! That was a rough two and a half hours, you know?'” Cohen’s genuine remarks underscored the profound impact fatherhood has had on his life.
