Wynne Evans issues three-word update over 'tough' days following Strictly controversies

Wynne Evans has broken his social media silence to chat with followers after weeks of controversy surrounding his exit from the Strictly Come Dancing live tour. On Tuesday (April 22), the opera singer recently took to Instagram, opening up a Q&A to his followers with the prompt: “Ask me anything”.

He was flooded by questions about his wellbeing, with one of his followers asking if he is okay. Evans looked on the verge of tears in the holiday selfie he posted in response, simply saying: “I’ll get there.” This comes after a turbulent few months for the 53-year-old, who has recently been at the centre of another Strictly scandal.

Earlier this year, Evans was forced to quit the Strictly live tour after reportedly making a sexually inappropriate comment about co-host Janette Manrara, using the explicit term “spit roast” in a private joke with fellow tour castmate and EastEnders star Jamie Borthwick.

Though no formal complaint was made at the time, the BBC later said: “We have made it very clear to Wynne that we do not tolerate such behaviour on the tour.”

That incident was followed by the emergence of a controversial backstage video, which was allegedly recorded during the tour in January. According to The Sun on Sunday, the footage shows Borthwick jokingly brandishing a sex toy backstage, while Evans can be seen shirtless in the background practising his dance moves.

The video was reportedly shared in a WhatsApp group used by his fellow Strictly cast members and later came to the attention of BBC executives.

A source told the outlet: “As soon as BBC executives were made aware of this shocking and immature footage being shared they formally addressed the issue and reminded the pair they had to act professionally.”

The insider added that many cast members “didn’t share their crass sense of humour”, and that bosses were “horrified and shocked” at the behaviour.

In the wake of the backlash, Evans stepped away from his BBC Radio Wales show, saying he needed to “prioritise my wellbeing”. Many of his followers have taken this opportunity to ask if he has any plans to come back to the airwaves.

One wrote: “Miss your daily banter sooo much on Radio Wales.” Another queried: “When are you going to be back on BBC Radio Wales? We miss you.”

The singer didn’t have any direct answers about when he might make a comeback, but did respond: “Miss you guys too. Hopefully it won’t be for long.”
