The eighth season of 9-1-1 is heading towards an emotional conclusion. Following the shocking departure of a key character (spoiler alert: Captain Bobby Nash) in episode 15, devoted viewers are preparing for the release of episode 16. When can fans expect to see it?
Read on to find out the 9-1-1 season 8 episode 16 release date, entitled “The Last Alarm,” and how the show will explore the impact of Bobby’s passing on the characters.
The Reason Behind Bobby’s Exit in 9-1-1
Bobby’s death in 9-1-1 was a deliberate narrative choice. According to actor Peter Krause, his character was “written in sacrifice, and he was built for this” as said in a statement released after the heartbreaking April 2025 episode.
“I’ve heard that many viewers are saddened by this loss, which is understandable. It is a significant loss,” Peter acknowledged. He noted that Bobby’s death was “more than just a bold creative choice on a daring show” and that his “story arc honors” first responders.
“First responders jeopardize themselves on the job so that others may live to see another day,” Peter explained regarding the reasoning behind Bobby’s death. “All of us at 9-1-1 commend the brave men and women who do these jobs to keep us safe. We recognize that our show is difficult to produce due to challenging stunts, long hours, and elaborate disasters. We couldn’t do it without each other.”

9-1-1 Showrunner Explains Difficult Storyline Decision
9-1-1 executive producer Tim Minear said he “had to persuade everyone” of his choice to kill Bobby off.
“The network wasn’t suggesting this as a cost-saving measure. None of that,” Tim clarified. “I articulated this at the highest levels along with trying to walk through the whole story in an effort to infect them because, in my view, as a writer, you could understand how suddenly the whole world felt lively because this had happened.”
911 Season 8 Episode 16 Air Date
Although 9-1-1 episodes generally broadcast on Thursdays on ABC, episode 16 of season 8 will air on May 1, 2025, two weeks after episode 15 went live. Episode 15, “Lab Rats,” depicts Bobby’s death following a viral infection.
Season 8, episode 16, is expected to still feature Bobby. As Tim said, according to Variety.
Peter Krause’s “Last Appearance”
“I will say that episode 15 isn’t Peter Krause’s last appearance this season,” Tim said, explaining that they filmed episode 15 and “aired it as episode 13” to make episodes 14 and 15 a two-part arc.
“We filmed it quickly, so that 14 and 15 could be this two-parter, and then, I would have three episodes to deal with the fallout,” Tim continued. “So, it’s not like Bobby dies, and everyone moves on. I believe the audience and the characters need three episodes to process it.”
Tim added that “every single episode of the next three” of season 8 are “all about Bobby’s death.”
Peter Krause’s Departure From 911 Brough About By Storyline
No, Peter wanted to remain on the show. Tim explained that Bobby’s death was his decision, not Peter’s. In fact, the Six Feet Under star has noted how difficult it would be to leave his 9-1-1 co-stars.
During an April 18, 2025, Good Morning America appearance, Peter called 9-1-1 his “workplace home for eight years, eight seasons.”
